Northwestern had been my first choice, but a few nights ago, I learned that

"Northwestern Scholarship assistance is generally not available to transfer or returning adult students during their first year at the University."

I emailed the admissions office to inquire about cases where need-based financial aid was awarded but haven't received a response. I'm really disappointed.

That sucks, but it seems pretty standard. Most schools don't award scholarships to transfers, but that doesn't necessarially mean you'll be deprived of grants or other need-based aid.

Actually, the "Northwestern Scholarship" is need-based. Misleading term, I know. That's why I'm especially disappointed.

I understand. What I meant was that the scholarship is not the only need-based aid there is.

I received word that the University was able to meet the full financial need of admitted financial aid applicants last year. The availability of funds varies from year to year. Perhaps Northwestern is my first choice after all.
