so, do i have all the "essential" dorm items covered?

<p>i recently won a school contest for a bunch of free dorm stuff. i'll be getting:</p>

<li>twin sheets + mattress pad</li>
<li>twin comforter</li>
<li>twin blanket + pillow</li>
<li>4 bath towels, 4 washcloths, 2 handtowels</li>
<li>flip flops</li>
<li>bathrobe</li>
<li>desklamp</li>
<li>storage containers</li>
<li>laundry bag</li>
<li>alarm clock</li>
<li>back pack</li>
<li>school supplies</li>
</ul>

<p>i have a job, and i was just going to work and buy all this stuff, but since im getting it for free, i want to make sure that i can allocate my money to something else. i'm not the type of guy who needs to live off a lot, but i would rather be prepared.</p>

<p>One thing you should add to list initially is power strip with long cord.. The outlets in dorm rooms don't always seem to be in the place you want them to be and you'll want to plug things in when you first get into your room. Anything else I would think could wait until you find out what else you need (usually within the first week or so!)</p>

<p>I already got all my stuff (sheets, comforter, toiletries, school supplies, etc.).</p>

<p>But wait on buying ANYTHING communal until you talk to your roommates.</p>

<p>Detergent and you'll probably need an eggcrate (mattress pad for hard mattresses).</p>

<p>Memory foam is so much better than eggcrates....but they cost more.</p>

<p>My dorm had trash cans in the rooms (one per resident). I bought one anyway, but if you do want to keep to essentials, this can wait, as you may not need it.</p>

<p>Add shower tote.</p>

<p>Talk about a nice contest to win...congrats!</p>
