and then. of course, there are the few, the proud, the TRUE British-Americans -- Dual US/British citizens like moi :) Nobody knows what to do with these down-trodden souls, thinking that they're just normal WASP Americans, not even counting them as a distinct ethnic group (sniff sniff). lol :) (huddles into corner with the BBC turned on).

Also, I should note that with British Americans, the pressure is also there, to a) go to a top undergraduate college, and b) go to a British graduate school ("finishing", as it were).

it's genetics. before anyone blasts me, let me explain. most of the "smart" asians are first-generation. the reason they're in the US in the first place is because their parents were good enough to make it over here...and the odds are pretty low. so you have the brightest people from asian countries coming over to the US (ie. these asian parents). they have children, smart parents tend to produce smart children, and couple that with the parents' own demand for excellence (b/c they want their children to be just as successful as them), you get a significantly "intelligent" group.

"I also agree with Earth-dragon's post. I've also often heard that Asians might be smart because only the best and brightest can get into America immigration wise (be that the fault of us or their home country). Do you all think there's any truth to that? I do know that our immigration policy for highly skilled workers is really Draconian."

Nope, I'm an immigrant and I came here at when I was like 5. There was no way they can measure my "smartness" when you're five years old and don't speak any english. My cousin just came like 6 months ago and he is just plain dumb, so the notion that only the smartest are allowed is false. There are so many smart asians because...idk, maybe because they're just smart like black people are just so athletic

6_ring, you misunderstand. I'm assuming you and your cousin got here for family reasons. That is the easy way. I was saying that for highly-skilled workers are immigration policy is rather stringent, and that Asians who come here are smarter because it is harder for them to get to America from their home countries (which someone else just posted).

i'm just saying don't make a claim like that when you are using really bad sources. I don't think any reliable source has proven that any race is better or worse than another. Give me an .edu or .gov site and maybe I would consider your claim.

I am not claiming anything. Just wanted to share some of the relevant research people have done.

The first article discusses a paper written by researchers at U of Western Ontario and U of California at Berkeley. They are well-known for research on racial differences in intelligence.
