Guys, I'm an Indian raised in California. My credentials:
AP Stats: 4
AP Calculus: 5
AP English 3: 5
AP Biology: 5
AP US History: 3
AP Chemistry: 2 (took it as a sophomore, but the teacher lacked credentials whatsoever - that was obvious.)
AP World History: 4
SAT: 2110
ACT: took it today, looking at about a 35
SAT II: all above or 10 below 700

So I've maintained a GPA for around a 3.9 to a 4.3, with A's and a few B's, with one C (junior year - my teacher was a "trial" teacher for the AP US curriculum, so bogus). But this year...this year was a really bad year for me: from family problems, to constantly worrying if I even would have a house to live by the end of the year... I was very scared. I completely went of the deep end at the beginning of the year, and have been unable to catch back up to my streak - If I don't do AMAZING on my finals, I will get all C's and one D. If I do well, I'm looking at a few A's and B's, with one or two C's. I haven't told my parents this because, well, I couldn't face them with this.
I applied to UCB (my father is a professor), UCSD, UCLA, Yale, MIT, UW(Seattle), UW(Ann Arbor), Case Western, Duke, Rice, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, and UPenn for a biomedical engineering degree. Most of the more prestigious ones I'm most likely going to do for a graduate college, but I really would like to go to UCSD or UCB. So... What are my chances? How much will those C's mess me up? Please help... I'm at the brink of tears...

I’m kinda going all or nothing here… UCLA and Yale have both contacted me repeatedly. I really just want to get into UCSD though… What are my chances for there?

Oh, forgot to add my EC’s: tennis for four years (jv and varsity), drama for two, I’m part of the National Honor Society Council, and I volunteer at a hospital.

I’ve been told by my adviser that UCSD is sometimes weird. They like to accept people from their area mostly, and so sometimes if you aren’t in their immediate area it is extremely difficult to get into. My adviser said he had kids who got into UCLA but not UCSD.

Do note that UCs do not look at your senior grades at all when considering applications. They will after they accept you, to see if you failed any classes. At that point they might resend your application. Lots of C’s might mean that they would do that. But not if you explain why.

Question…the D you have earned in one class…is it in one of the A-G required courses for the UC’s? Your GPA is strong, but my understanding is that a D in the required A-G course may eliminate acceptance to a UC because you are not able to make up classes after your junior year.

I think you should talk to your teacher/counselor. If that one letter grade will cost you a whole year or 2 years at a JC, and means you are rescinded, then maybe they will help some how.
