So I called the Admission office...(look at if you have been forwarded forever)

USC does wait until the very end to say no. It’s always been like that. The people saying they’ve been rejected just have http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/888589-rejection-fever.html?highlight=rejection+fever</a> as TrojAndrew put it.

other colleges.

@ Faith - Specific reference please?

I’m not about to go and search around for evidence on things I saw earlier.
No college waits until the end to say “no” to every single applicant, when there are surely applicants who are completely unqualified and lack promise of potential admission.
While USC might wait for the end bulk to say no, they don’t wait to say no to every rejected student.

A college can’t just pick random people out of the applicant pool and tell them “no” ahead of time. You will not see that happen in an Ivy League, a UC school, or USC. You will not see that happen anywhere. There are deadlines and notification dates for a reason… I guess a better way to describe it would be “bureaucracy.”

USC gives everyone a fighting chance. They don’t just look at someone with a 2.0 and automatically reject them. One of the SCA applicants this year has been accepted with a 2.7 GPA. That’s the point of holistic admissions – they take in the applicant as a whole. What if your hypothetical 2.0/no EC student wrote a phenomenal essay and had a great portfolio/interview/audition/etc?

I assure you that no one has received a rejection yet. If you can find me proof via USC’s website or another user’s post, then I will stand corrected.

-.-
Whatever.

“Correction; everyone on here THINKS they have been rejected.”

yeah…those people are annoying. “i have been rejected!!!” “what!!! when!!!” “well…not yet, officially!” “…S T F U”

;]

Haha, I think people just assume rejection just because it’s down to the wire with April 1st closing in.
Plain fact is, no one can know or figure out or predict any sort of pattern or what any status update or anything means.
It’s up to God and the mail man.

USC does. No rejections for Freshman admission have been received at this date. And USC reads every application - even if on the surface the applicants qualifications do not seem to match those of typically admitted students. There is a wonderful student who might fit that description who recently posted on the decisions thread. Posted an ADMISSION, that is.

I’ll take the word for it.
But I still believe that they’ve had to have sent some rejections out.

Lol, how is that taking their words for it?

Hahaha! Thanks, Andrew! :D

(I was thinking the same thing)

People seem to be quite incessant about it, hence taking their word for it.

big wave next week i’m assuming?
someone from my school got spring admit already and also applied to CLAS
am i screwed?

I wouldn’t say so.
Maybe they offer spring admit to those qualified, but not neccessarily the best?
Don’t beat yourself up.
Nothing’s official until you get the letter.

thanks faith ^^

im nervous cause i applied CLAS too
but the thing is my GPA is higher + classes are more rigorous than hers
probably my low SAT (1900)…
idk. i just hoping for the best.
another one of my friends who has about the same GPA/classes hasnt heard back either

i guess i just want to know now. hopes arent that up

Yeah, everyone is stressing it right now.
It’s a serious deal, so we have a right to be all frazzled and out of sorts.
But ultimately, we just have to wait it out (unfortunately…)
But don’t go black balling yourself.
And hey, even if it is spring admit, it’s better than a rejection.

I would like to back what alamemom said. I am going to share some information that I have not talked about here before. Frankly, everyone here outshines my academic record by far (even those of you who say you have terrible stats). I only have a 3.5 gpa. When I say 3.5, I mean weighted/unweighted are identical. I have zero AP, IB classes and SAT scores that I am 100% certain are the lowest here (medical issue to explain both, but I am not getting into that in this forum). Yet, I have ten times the EC’s/community service hours that I have seen anyone else here quote. I also wrote killer essay’s (affirmed by my counselor who reads for one of the most competitive UC).

I have not received a rejection letter yet. I am statistically speaking, a “reject”. But USC has sent me through the process just like the rest of you. They do have a holistic approach to their admittance process. I am certain that they read every single word, on every single application. That is the only reason I am still here with the rest of you. They took the time to read my story, and move me along in the process rather than tossing my app. in the garbage. That shows me how hard they are working for us.

I guess I am trying to say, don’t just assume a certain status means you are rejected. Also don’t assume because part of your “package” does not compare to someone else, that you will not be accepted. I am proof that they are looking, reading, examining, reviewing, and thinking. I can’t tell you if I am going to get in, but I can tell you that I have enjoyed the ride and dream of getting that big fatty white envelope just like the rest of you.

Hang in there, we will all find out in the next three days. Best of luck to all of you.

Tornados, Im in your boat exactly.
Sup-par GPA and Sub-par SATs.
Statistically speaking, looking through my Naviance graphs of USC, out of the 60 or so kids that applied to USC from my school over the past few years, I am nowhere near the average. I won’t get in, is what Im trying to say.

You can just hope for the best and try to cushion the fall. Im in 3 other schools already, so that makes things better.

Good luck to you all, really. I think we all need it at this point…

rriparetti…thanks for letting me know that I am not the only one who reached for the stars…I really appreciate that! Yippee to us for being courageous :D
