Like the title says, I was accepted as a transfer into both W&M and UVA, but am having the hardest time deciding between the two, both obviously being great schools..
At W&M I would be studying finance, where at UVA I would be doing econ (financial concentration)... I plan to go for banking upon graduation. Finance had always been my original intention, but due to my current lack of foreign language credits McIntire was a no go for me, hence the application to CAS econ at UVA. Looking at both programs, I am realizing that either could be really good..
Can anyone provide any insight as to why I should pick one school, one of the programs over the other?? Any input is appreciated, esp. first-hand . Thanks!

the biggest difference between UVA and W&M is campus atmosphere / location. You will get a great education at both schools.

One positive in terms of WM is the new business school which will be open this coming fall. In terms of finance, I had a roommate who was a marketing major and was required to take finance to satisfy a core requirement for the business school. From what I heard from him and people in his class, Finance was the “right of passage” class in the business school (If you can get a C- or higher then that is cause for celebration). Of course, I’m not trying to scare you away from finance at WM - if you are intending to major in finance I assume you have the type of background/resume which makes you feel comfortable with majoring in that area and are probably better in that area than the average B-School student. From what I heard, there were a couple of students in my roommate’s class who made some good grades. But, I just thought I would point that out to eliminate the possibility of any surprise. I’ve heard many good things about the business school at WM and can tell you I’ve known various people that were in the B-School who graduated with below average to almost average GPA’s (2.5-3.0) who ended up with what would be considered to be good employment at good size firms.

You can’t lose with either, good luck.

Thanks for the replies. After going to W&M again today and going through the campus etc., I am confident that I have made the right decision. I will be attending W&M this fall. EXCITED.

Good choice, I think. Hope to see you around!

Agreed. At UVA, you’d forever have to explain to knowledgeable folks in the field …Why UVA and no McIntire.
