So, I screwed up. How can I fix this?

I am a high school senior living in Socal and I'm going to be graduating with a less than stellar GPA. I got straight A's for the first 2.5 years, but then apathy kicked in and all that jazz and I stopped caring. I'll barely pass this year and get my high school diploma.

Right now what I want to do is go to community college because of financial reasons and my crap grades. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to prepare for for transferring? Is there anything you guys can recommend for me to do?

I'll be graduating with some AP and IB credit.
I've taken both the SAT and ACTW once, scores of 1810 and 30.
EC-wise I don't really have much. I've volunteered here and there and joined some clubs, but that's it.

Also, from what I understand about the usual transfer process is that I will do my freshman year at a cc, then apply during fall of my sophomore year including various. Is this correct?

Also, I want to go to a higher-tier university with an Economics degree.

Sounds like you can do it. Choose your schools and work hard.

Yes, just make sure in your first semester you don’t mess up. I did that and unfortunately I’m paying the consequences for it. If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your GPA?

One great aspect about CA is there are lots of great schools, public and private.

You can definitely get into a top flight school as long as you apply your self in CC. There are transfer agreement plans/guarantees to certain UCs and CSUs. As long as you satisfy the established requirements (ie pre-reqs and general education courses) with a strong GPA, the odds are in your favor of being accepted.

Keep you chin up, stay focused in CC, and do the best you can. Aim high, but have a back-up plan should transfering to your dream school does not materialize.
