So, I took an APUSH mock exam today...

... and it was an actual exam from 2001, complete with the actual DBQ and FRQ from 2001. I don't (yet) know how well I did, but I think I did semi-decently on the MCs and FRQs. I skipped 4 MCs and answered a couple more that I wasn't completely sure about, but I'm fairly certain about the rest of my answers. Also my DBQ and one of my essays were decent while the other essay was solid. However, I was really surprised that, after a full year of taking more time on quizzes and tests than the rest of the class, and just barely finishing my timed essays before time was over in class, I actually had a significant chunk of time left over after completing the sections.

So, has anyone else taken a mock exam? If so, how did you feel about it? Was an actual exam, one from a test prep book, or a totally made-up one? Are you taking one anytime soon if you haven't done so? And how prepared do you feel for the APUSH exam now that you've taken a mock version of it?

Our class is taking one the day we come back from Spring Break. I should at least get 1/80 of them correct…yea, my teacher sucks.

lol… I think you can manage more than that  Honestly the MC was easier than I expected it to be… and my teacher isn’t so great as well.

Lol, well it’s gotten to the point where i haven’t read a chapter since ~chapter 4 in the American Pageant just because i don’t care to learn in that class primarily due to the teacher. It’s weird i guess.

Let this be of some encouragement.
I failed all of the mock exams. I hated the class. I went into the exam without sleep and a bundle of nerves. It was my first AP exam ever. I got a 4.

^^a 4 is my target score…~~~~

psilovethomas, you’re my idol. For real.

HOW DO YOU STUDY FOR THE ESSAYS?!

Our class did. Apparently we all failed :stuck_out_tongue:
Seriously, the scantrons were covered in pink marks. And this is really sad considering our school’s history dept. is the only decent dept. left.

jennieblue22 - congrats on doing so well on the 2001 exam. What books are you using to review? Thanx!

don’t study for the essays. you get 9 or so documents, just make sure you use 9 in your essay.

study for the multiple choice, in turn you will study for the dbq’s. the dbq’s are just essays that need documents, its really no sweat. after you get moving.

to study for the mc, do a practice exam (that way you also get some practice dbq’s), and also READ the entire review book review. read more than one. just go to your book store and just read for a while. it helps a lot.

Thanks a lot! pandagur 1, I’m using the same books as almost everyone else here - AMSCO and REA Crash Course. These books are amazing! (Although granted, AMSCO was not cheap, it was so worth it! And Crash Course is both good and relatively inexpensive. But you really only need one of them.)

ouch, yankeedoodle. I’m sorry it happened :(

Lol…I just finished a mock exam and felt it was really easy…Then I graded it…O_o

Well, plus side I’m not going to fail, and my essays are usually decent at least. (I just did multiple choice today.) But I think I got something like ten more questions wrong than I thought I would. Oh, well.

Happy studying to all!

nominal - that’s slightly different from what our teachers told us. he said to use as many as you can, but that using all of them might not be a good idea because that means you’re likely leaving out important outside information and your essay is too dominated by the documents given.

DefyLegacy - ouch. but it’s okay, it happens! just don’t let it happen on the real thing

good luck to all :)

Wait, wait, wait. For people talking about the essays:

 1. For the DBQ, there isn’t a set number of sources you half to use as long as you use half of the number plus 1. After that, it doesn’t matter. Using all 9 is not better than using 5 or 6 of the nine. Don’t use sources just because you are trying to get all 9 sources in. Use the ones you need to prove your point, discard the ones you don’t need. It is much more important to use your sources properly and efficiently to support your thesis than it is to just employ them haphazardly. Last year, my friend used all 9 sources and was really confident coming out because he was proud that he got all 9 in. I used 6 or 7 (can’t remember, exactly, but I know I skipped at least 2). He got a 4. I got a 5. Granted, there is more to the AP exam than just the DBQ, but most people who got 5s in my school that I’ve talked to didn’t use every single source. It’s not necessary at all.
 2. You better prepare for the other 2 FRQs. Like, you really shouldn’t wing it. AP graders don’t give a crap whether your a talented writer. You sure better know your stuff before writing the essays or else you can seriously end up with a 2 or 3 out of 9 on the FRQs. They can be really tough when grading. My teacher (an AP grader) said on the essay he and his group grader, the average score they gave was a 2.7 or 3 or something. So you need to make sure you know your facts AND understand the relations between the facts. Make sure to fully grasp the HOW, the WHY, and the IMPLICATIONS of every fact you memorize.

All in all, APUSH is a very doable test, especially if you are willing to put in the time and effort. Good luck!

…back to Physics C… mutter…

FOR THE DBQs
what my teacher has advised my class is that you use a HALF + 1 on the documents, since the number of documents vary each year from 5-11. so… yeah.

FOR THE FRQs
what they’re looking for, well actually this is for all the essays, is that you write the big idea for your thesis, then through your essay point out the facts that lead up to them, AKA pretend that the graders are kindergartners and that your essay is a puzzle box, without the big picture, they won’t even bother putting together the puzzle!

you don’t have to be a great writer, you just have to CONNECT THE IDEAS. hopefully i helped you, because i haven’t helped myself! i’m hoping for a 5… :frowning: sigh

now back to studying biochemphysicspanishistory prep book!
