So I'm from Alaska...chances at east coast schools?

Hi everybody. This is my first post, so sorry if I don't include pertinent information.

I am going into my senior year and am half Caucasian, half "Alaskan native," I guess it's called.

Gender: F
State: AK
School: I went to an alternative school with a class size of approx. 50 students. My school didn't offer Advanced Placement or honors courses but its curriculum is not considered light. If anyone thinks that posting the classes I've taken will be helpful, I'll do so.

Oh, more randomly, I've been teaching myself Italian since 8th grade.

Colleges I'd like to apply to (unless you all say otherwise, I want to try for top-tier schools)
Cornell ED
Brown
Columbia
Yale
Boston U
NYU
UA Southeast Juneau campus (I am about 99% sure this is a safety)

I’m most worried about my chances at Cornell. It’s my favorite. So if anyone has any ideas, I would be glad to hear them.

I thik you’ll make into Cornell ED. 2 things weighing heavily in your favor are Alaska and the elusive 800CR.

AK Studies…

Good luck w/your admission decisions :)

I believe you have an outstanding chance at all of them.

Just don’t tell them you can see the East Coast (or, Russia, for that matter) from Alaska.

Thanks for the responses. I know I have things working in my favor but at the same time I don’t have any APs or honors. As noimagination certainly noticed, some of my classes have been a bit out of the ordinary. How will the top-tier schools respond to this?

Hmmmmmm bump

When you say you are half “Alaskan native,” does that mean that you can indicate that you are Native American on college applications? If so, this is a very helpful “hook” at any college.

Hmm, I think maybe. I am half Inupiaq and on the CC profile, the category was called “Native American/Alaskan Native.” I intend on finding out.

I’m still concerned about my coursework. How will colleges determine that the rigor is suitable or comparable to their coursework?
