So I'm getting a little worried about not getting into Kelley...

LoonLake,

Have you investigated the LAMP program at all? [LAMP: Certificate Requirements](<a href=“Indiana University Bloomington”>Indiana University Bloomington)

Looks like they get a lot of access to Kelley and the undergrad career services office.

I was just notified that I have been rejected from Kelley. I’ll research the LAMP program further but quite honestly I feel no reason to stay in this school…

I’m sorry to hear the news, Loon Lake. Kelley is getting ridiculously hard to get into now. I don’t recall decisions ever coming out this early. The end of May is really early. Makes you think there are not many slots and there is very little agonizing by the selectors-- either you have all solid B’s and above or not. In 2008, the decisions came out in mid-July, probably after having taken First Summer Session grades into account: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/indiana-university-bloomington/537882-kelley-standard-admission-decisions.html</a> Students need to take the minimum required application courses and all the easy courses they can find to get the solid B’s. Any other course of action is adding unnecessary risk.

I know you have a lot of drive and talent, and I am sure you will do well the rest of your college years. You are probably still pretty stressed from all this, so try and relax and make your next career decision with a clear head. We have all enjoyed so much reading your insights about IU and your involvement in campus life the past year. I wish you had got in, but the regular admission process has really become a meatgrinder just since my son came to IU in 2008, with lots of procedural changes that reflect the increased difficulty of getting in regular admit. A few years has made a world of difference in terms of getting into Kelley.

Loon, I’m sure you are very disappointed right now and feeling pretty down. Try not to be too hard on yourself, especially considering how difficult it has become to get in as a regular admit these days.

You need to take some time to evaluate your options. Try not to make any hasty decisions. What is your current status? Are you still currently enrolled? SPEA or an econ major might be reasonable choices.

If you leave IU, do you have other schools in mind?

Sleep on it and, hopefully, tomorrow you can think clearly about your choices.

Hey, thanks for the kind words. Means a lot. I wasn’t overly surprised and it’s been sinking in for like a month that it was going to happen, so the email came as little surprise, luckily. Also, just in case people are waiting, I know of two kids who were accepted yesterday and today.

I called my mom today and I have a week to decide if I want to come back to IU in the Fall. My mom said she’d prefer I didn’t as the only reason they’re paying for me to attend IU is ** Kelley ** and now that I didn’t get in I can attend University of North Dakota, NDSU or University of Minnesota-Twin Cities for instate tuition and get a similar education in my non-business major (and both my parents hated the distance) and be able to come home if need be. I on the other hand want to stay at IU because my greatest friends are here and I love the school, but SPEA and LAMP (while great programs) don’t guide me in the path I want to go in. But the decision lies in my hands :-/

Can you petition standard admission? There was nothing in the email about it… basically all the email said is “we are super prestigous and we only admit the best and it is extremely hard to reject people and blah blah blah and you are one of those people.”

No aternate options or words of wisdom or wishes for success. I wasn’t impressed and it made me feel a little better haha

I have a C+ in biology and a W for m211

Do i still have a good chance of getting into kelley?

Should i apply for sophomore fall or sophomore spring?

TF121,

We know that your are stressed out. But, there is no excuse trying to contaminate every thread with the same question. Now that you have cooled down somewhat. I will share my thoughts.

The C+ and a W look bad. Unless you have some unusual hooks, you chance of getting into Kelley at IUB is low. Your plan of taking 4-5 demanding courses is not likely to work. You need to stay away from betting the farm as a business student. In fact, it may back fire on your GPA. I can’t advise you regarding the timing for submitting your application. However, you should look through posts on this board for alternatives. Kelley has a lot of advantages; but, it is not the only path to success. Good luck!

i decided to even out the courses and apply after 2 semesters

i just found out that a W doesnt count that much though…

and the C+ is non-major related though…

thank you so much
