I'm enrolled in two classes for this Summer (starting on the 20th), and I am on the housing waitlist. I'm not sure what to do. I live in Sacramento, so I would really not like to have to commute (2+ hours each way). Generally, does anybody know if being on the waitlist means that I won't get housing? To be honest, I'm a tad worried. Any advice?

I thought that as a transfer edge student, I was guaranteed housing. I suppose I was wrong?

E-mail Berkeley housing and ask what your position on the waitlist is. I was number 23 and I got a room 1.5 weeks later! So there’s definitely hope for you! Granted, I was placed on the waitlist at the beginning of May.

I’ve never been in summer housing so I can’t really speak on that…however, have you looked into getting an apartment for the summer? And a lot of students would probably let you sublet their place for a shorter period of 1-2 months. The price, depending on the place, will definitely be cheaper than/comparable to summer housing. A basic craigslist search in sf bay–>east bay–>berkeley should yield some good results–though you’ll need to hurry if you want to get a place for the summer. Just look into as backup. Hope your summing housing goes through though!

Yeah summer subleting seems to be REALLY cheap and people would probably negotiate since they want to get rid of it.

But if you’re a freshman, I would recommend staying in dorms because they have a great social life in the summer time.

You can live in a frat or co-op.
