So.. what should I do?

Okay guys. I studied SO hard for this October SAT and did 50 points worse than last time. In August I got a 1430 and today, I got a 1380.

The school I want to go to is Georgetown. I know many of you know they have a we recommend “3 subject tests.”

I was going to take 2 subjects in November, then 1 subject that’s only offered in December, and also use December to retake any subjects.

Should I take the SAT again in November and move all of my subjects to December? It might be hard to study for. Or should I just move on and do subjects for the next two months? I’m scared I won’t get into any top 20 school with a 1430.

Thanks Guys!!! I really need this.

Georgetown requires all scores so the more SAT’s you take the more you will need to send them. Think carefully about whether a third SAT would, in fact, give them new information about you over and above your two other scores.

Also, have backups in mind. The 1430 is fine for a whole lot of schools.

I agree with post 1. You have your 1430. Now you’ve gone down fifty points, which is substantial. You will have to gain back sixty points to beat your previous score, which won’t be easy.

Is it really worth it? Given the herculean effort required, the roughly 15% acceptance rate, and 2 SAT scores below their 50th percentile, I think you would be wise to strongly consider if you should continue the testing Merry-go-round.

And don’t be “scared” about getting into a Top 20 school. If your mindset is Top 20 or Bust, you are setting yourself up for a world of hurt in March. 1430 is a really good score, but it’s probably not going to be above the 50th percentile at many of the colleges you aspire to. Even if it is above the fiftieth, you surely know that it’s still extremely difficult to get into those colleges. Find other colleges where your grades and test scores put you in the 75th percentile. You will at least have some choices come March. Don’t be one of the students in April who writes a post saying “Why didn’t I get in anywhere?”

Take subject tests in which you’re really good and apply to test flexible colleges (Middlebury).
Try the ACT : dates are different from the subject tests.

I think you should focus on your subject tests. It is not enough time for you to be worrying about the SAT, and it takes a lot more time to improve your score.
