Older S received a likely from Duke 2 years ago and went to Duke UpClose. He reported that "everyone" there had been accepted by HYPSM. He had been accepted SCEA at Stanford. He had none of the hooks that bfg listed above, but he is a rather unique kid (don't all parents think that of their children :)). The val and sal of his class did not get likely letters though they were admitted (S was 3rd).
For all you anxious duke hopefuls: I recall he received his likely letter during the last week of Fed.

I'm thinking likely letters are imminent. From what I've read on last year's thread, the likely letters came out around February the 19th. So keep looking in those mailboxes, but remember, do not be crushed if you do not receive one as many who later get accepted do not receive these letters. Hopefully many of us on college confidential will get one. GOOD LUCK to all.

Probably not getting one with my stats, but I can always hope.
All Hail Duke Fencing!

I didn't get a likely letter but still got in, :D
I guess it is mostly there for an 'ego boost'.

Has anyone gotten a letter today?

Nope.. not yet.
I hope I get one.
I already got one from Dartmouth, so I'm hoping to get a Duke one- since I hear both are equally selective.

omg the 'end of february' is next week!!! I'll b checking my mail everyday

I know, I am seriously starting to freak out severely at this point in time -- I so hope to get SOMETHING good in the mail this week.

Hey dpattzlover, just wondering, have you received any other likely letter from other colleges that you've applied to? I'm asking because given your circumstances (SAT, ethnicity, EC, etc) you are probably a well sought candidate at many top schools.

I am pretty sure we will start hearing about letter tomorrow. Congratulations to all who receives one.

Yeah, that's what I am guessing as well, worriedhssenior. I am so glad we have reached a point in the process with some action! haha.

Anyway, to answer your question class2009college (haha, nice user name), I have been both admitted and notified of my status as a scholarship finalist at a school in Minnesota, St. Olaf College, which, though not "most selective" per se, is still quite selective and admits about 45% of applicants per year (I believe). I was under the impression that I was going to hear around April 1st, so when the package came in the mail, I was presently surprised. I have also been accepted early at Macalester College (another MN school, again, around the 40% mark). I have not gotten any "likely letters" yet though and have heard nothing from my top three schools (Stanford, Duke, and WashU in St. Louis) so I really hope that this week at least brings some good news....do you think I stand any chance of hearing anything? Ah, I am so anxious. ;), but thanks for the wonderful words, that makes me feel very good!

Anyway, some people on the Stanford forum have received "likely letters", but they tend to be dated quite a bit apart, so I am really hoping for one of those this week!

dpattzlover, congrats on your acceptance(s) so far. Also, I'm sure you'll be receiving some good news very soon. Keep checking your mailbox cause I know I'll be checking mine (although I doubt I will receive one haha). Like what worriedhssenior said, I'm thinking those Duke likely letters are rolling out tomorrow or the next day. So good luck!

i want a duke likely letter sooooo bad! but i dont think i have a shot.

did anyone get one? my mail came already and no letter...

Nothing yet from Dook

Nothin'.

I did get my rejection letter from the Belk Scholarship at Davidson, though :P
I'm not too torn up about it. Over 700 applicants and < 20 semifinalists. Bad odds, lol.

Ugh, so i came home and saw the mail, and there was a duke letter. I got all excited, but then read that it was basically asking me to confirm my citizenship. WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME, DUKE?

I'm in the same boat as all of you (worried, anxious, wanting a Duke likely letter) but I haven't gotten ANY acceptances yet! All I've gotten is a Cornell deferral, and haven't heard from any other colleges yet.
I'm starting to freak.

Apparently I was one of the top 150 Notre Dame EA applicants, so I'm interested to see what this means for me at Duke and their 350/3500 or so.

It's just so tough to wait for something that's never really even officially acknowledged!
