I'm so excited I got in here, its such a nice school. Who else got in?

I got in Early Decision back in November. I received enough money to attend, too, so I'll definitely be there this fall. It'll be quite the move from where I live. Will you be going?

applicantmum: If you have any specific questions, post them and I can easily pass them along to some close friends I have that are currently attending Ursinus and get back to you with their responses. I know two freshmen and a junior (a little harder for me to get in touch with, though). Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the Capstone program, due to the distance.

But yes, post or PM me any questions if you're interested. :)

My son attends UC ( as the students call it) as a neuro-science major. It is a wonderful school that is becoming quickly noticed. The rigors of its academic programs may surprise you, but not the grad schools. Which may explain the high acceptance rate to them from its graduates. I have a second son who has been accepted at JHU and is awaiting notification from Duke and Cornell. As of today he is leaning towrd UC. He feels that the education at UC would be comparable to any of the above mentioned schools.

Thank you everyone! I guess the academics have impressed us but D is concerned about the lack of name recognition. (At least among the general population) Glad to hear the grad schools know it. She is also interested in neuroscience. How large is the Greek scene, and are there other social options? Has the new performing arts center opened? Does anyone know if the music program will be moved to the new building? How are the housing options? D will be attending the capstone program. I will put her in touch with all of you. She is away visiting one of her other college options. Eskloe, Did you read the DEEP study on Ursinus? Very impressive. Thanks alot in advance.

The academics are certainly impresssive--moreso than I knew when I applied. According to the Princeton Review, the academic ratings are actually a couple points higher than Harvard undergrad studies. I was concerned about the lack of "prestige," but I definitely think that Ursinus is becoming more and more prestigious each year, and even if it is not recognized among most, it is at least recognized by the people that count--the grad admissions.

From what I hear, the Greek scene is definitely a presence at Ursinus, but is easily avoidable. My friends there have only mentioned the frats and sororities at one time, and that was when they were pledging. None of them are involved with these organizations, but they do not have any trouble finding their own social scenes apart from the Greek system. In fact, a couple of them have very "unique" interests but have found others with similar ones to socialize with. I'm fairly confident that anyone will fit in at Ursinus, considering how laid-back the student body is in general.

I am not sure about the performing arts center...I'll have to ask about it...but I do not think it has yet opened. Soon, though...I've read that its opening is to be "early spring" so there is still time. Definitely this year, though, and undoubtedly before the next freshman class arrives. I do not know anything about the music program, though, and I don't know anyone that would know. I'm curious about that myself, though, as I'll be quite involved with it.

As far as housing options...I doubt that any freshmen will have any special options. I know of three freshmen that received single rooms this year...two of the rooms are a little small, but one is quite big. It's all luck, I guess. But! Two of these people--in fact, the two that are in the small singles this year--will be living in a restored Victorian house next year. With the proper interest and initiative shown, it seems that this special housing as early as sophomore year is not overly difficult to attain.

Anyway, I will not be at the Capstone program, as I said, but I'd be more than happy to speak with your daughter or answer any other questions (or refer them to others more qualified to answer) you might have.
