As a transfer student going into sophomore year at Rose Hill (and will possibly live inside campus), do you think it will be hard for me to integrate into the community? What do you suggest I should do in order to make more friends quickly?
JUMP IN!
! Most students change dorms and many change roommates for sophomore year, so there are lots of opportunities to meet people who are also meeting new floormates. As anywhere in life, to make friends quickly, join groups RIGHT AWAY. Join clubs, sports teams, other teams, join choral, theatrical, radio, chess, gaming, and volunteer groups… There is a day very early in the fall semester where clubs have booths and you can learn about them. You can look up student clubs on the website and email them before the semester starts. Check with the Dorothy Day Center for volunteer opportunities. Also there are local Bronx organizations where one can volunteer. Study in the common rooms of the dorm, or the library - you’ll meet other students who are out of their rooms, too. An unlimited food plan allows one to enter the cafeteria multiple times a day, where many students gather, sometimes for just a cup of tea or some ice cream. There are the early breakfast people, who get to know each other, the late night snack people, etc. One can go to work out at the same time each day and meet like minded people, too. There are so many ways to connect! Just join!
Thank you for all the info, I will def join a few clubs and sports team!
Hey! I’m also transferring to Fordham to enter my Sophomore year. Do you wanna get a group chat going?
The dorms have associations and activities that you can get involved in. And if you are Catholic there are many ways to get involved.
@HowardsMom my daughter has been admitted as a Freshman next year and is considering a few other schools. I just read your comment that there are many ways to get involved if you are Catholic. Does this mean that there are fewer ways to get involved if you aren’t Catholic? We aren’t so I’d love to know this now before she makes her decision.
The opportunities are for all! There are so many things to do - see the first answer this post for examples. Look up the many student activities on the website, and local community activities through Dorothy Day Center and community resources. Fordham is open to all and welcoming. One of the traits they encourage is service to others, part of the Cura Personalis - “care of the whole person."
There are hundreds of groups and activities that are not religious in nature, and plenty that are -the student chooses.
