How is the social life of the students at Reed? Are there any occasional parties or is it all intellectual all the time?
I mean, I like discussing the classics but, I like to occasionally go out for a party or catch a movie with friends as well. Is it possible to do that?

Bump…any Reedies, any?

Yes, there are parties, on-campus events, all-expenses-paid Grey Fund trips (like paintballing!), and people organize occasional off-campus forays. You’ll have to make the time to go, though. This isn’t always easy, especially after your freshman year, but doing so is definitely something you can and should do.

FYI, I don’t think very many Reedies frequent this board - you’ll have much better luck on the Reed College - Class of 2013 facebook group.

You can have a pretty active social life if you want. What gets hard is the balancing act. You can’t have a great social life, spend hours and hours a week reading comics in the MLLL, play hours and hours of pool, be involved in 9 organizations, have a significant other and finish all your academic work at the same time. You have a lot of free time on your hands especially for the first year or two. It’s just a matter of not packing it too tight with things to do.

I was going to say that it’s all about work/life balance. If you’re good at balancing a heavy work load and other things, you’ll have time for socializing. If you have time for socializing, there are plenty of social things to do. The problem is balancing those. OTOH, my Reedie would say that it’s hard to do well in classes and have a girlfriend, and socialize. :-)
