social life, dorms, classes...any questions?

If anyone has any questions about school I'd be glad to answer them, I can answer questions about the greek system, good freshmen year professors, and pretty much anything else freshmen would have questions about.

hi, wow seems to be alot of IU students popping up in CC nowadays lol its a gud thing :).

anways, how is teter as a residence hall? does it have any bad reps. or anything a incoming freshman should know about?

are academic learning communities pointless and are they full of antisocial kids or as they say, is it "just like any other dorm"

how big is the greek system exactly? about how many undergraduate students or incoming freshman of aboug 6500 participate in greek? is there any pressure or negative stigma if one doesnt join?

Teter is fine, academic communities are pointless unless you plan on studying all day. The Greek system is big, even if you dont think its for you at least check it out. You will be exposed to it pretty heavily in the first couple weeks, go on the house tours, go to parties at the houses, and see what its like.

hi

How is Read Hall? I will live in Read: Curry

Thanks a lot!

bump, how is read hall?

I have a question.

I shoot trap and shotguns competitively. Do they allow firearm storage on campus? Perhaps at the campus PD? Do they have a trap team or anything like that? My old school, Southern Illinois University, has a pretty good team.

hows the weather like in the time between welcome week and thanksgiving break. Will i need to bring winter clothes with me? Plus is it necessary/convenient to bring a tv to Briscoe and how much should i spend on it. Thanks

yes u will need winter clothes, although it doesn't get much below 20 degrees.

I'm sorry but the tv question is stupid. if you want to watch tv, yes it is necesary. otherwise it is not

Do you know about gun storage at the school?

And how is Bloomington for transportation? I am hoping the school has a bus system. What about cabs? If there are cabs, how are the rates? I assume there is a Walmart.

What about an Amtrak or Greyhound station?

Bloomington does have a great bus system, as does the IU campus, and it is all free with your student body card. (Or rather, you pay for it through that "transportation fee" in your IU bill.)
I can't answer the other two questions.

Thanks very much.

There is no amtrak, there is no greyhound. there is a bus that goes from indy airport to bloomington. there is also a bus that goes to chicago during peak times

I'm just hoping I can find a friend to take me to and from school over breaks, I don't want to have to pay for buses/plane tickets, it would be $150 for a bus and $315 for a plane, argh i'm about to just hitch a ride with someone for $50.

Where are you from?

A2Wolves6,
Have you checked the ride board on OneStart or posted there about getting a ride? When you go to OneStart, click on "Student Tools" at the top, then there will be Classifieds on the right hand side, which includes a place to post if you are looking for a ride (ride board, carpool). We have never used it, so I don't know how well it works, but it might be worth a try.

Didn't know about that Susan, thanks!

I'm from Ann Arbor Gatman

I am not familiar with the american educational system, so please do not ignore my question.

I would like to know at IU, which courses or subjects fall under Social and Behavioral Sciences and which fall under Humanities.

Thanks for your help

I was trying to find a list on their website, but haven't been able to yet. Basically, social and behavioral sciences include things like sociology, psychology, and anthropology, while humanities would include literature, art, music, etc. If I can find a more specific list, I will post it. You can also check with your advisor if you have questions on this. They would know more than I do.
