Hey all
I'm a senior who will be applying to IUB shortly and I have decent stats and am sure I'll be admitted to Kelley. My question is what is life like at IUB? What are the good dorms? How's the food? What is the greek life like? What's the diversity? What are the parties like?

It's IU man.

anything more?

I don't go there, but everyone else from my school does. Don't know the answer to any of your questions. Congratulations on Kelley if you get in. Are you in-state? I've never heard it called IUB before.

Life at IU is what you make it. There are plenty of parties--and frequent cases of alcohol poisoning--if that's what you like. There are serious students, if that's more your style. Some dorm food is pretty awful, but there are others that are pretty good (according to my son). Not as good as home cooking, of course. The diversity question is answered on another thread. I can't tell you anything about greek life, as my son isn't into that.

And which dorms are good, again, depends upon what you want in a dorm. Some have air conditioning; some don't. Some offer more singles than others. There are coop dorms, where you can save money. There are theme dorms to match quite a number of interests. There are Honors dorms. Your choice is somewhat limited as an incoming freshman. You can choose a theme dorm, or you can choose a "neighborhood" or area of campus, but other than theme dorms, you can't request a particular dorm.

IU pretty much has it all...if you want to go Greek its the perfect place, if you don't its all good becase you can still go to the parties. I'm going to IU tomorrow to move-in and I already have people calling me up tellin me about keg parties...so there will always be parties going on.

Dorms differ..some have AC some don't. They vary a lot. Compared to the beautiful campus, the dorms are sub-par...but that goes for most freshman dorms...when you get in your later years they get much better and there are a lot of apartments on campus that you can rent or frat houses.

Diversity...hmm its supposed to be very diverse but w/ a population of 36k and majority coming from IN...the majority of kids are white. But its very ethnic welcoming so if you aren't white you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks for the general info, so now my questions are a little more academic
Do people study alot? Do any graduate in three years? is it easy? Do people actually get triple majors in just four years? Also, for scholarships how much money could I expect to get if any,
here are my stats
90th percentile
640Math 690Critical reading 670Writing
4.0 GPA

oh yeah I am an out of stater, CT

u will get the full $7000/year

depending on the majors, u certainly could

Sorry what do you mean the full $7000, Will I have to pay full tuition, out of state that's 25-27K? Thanks

7000 is the maximum merit-based aid that they give, unless you get one of the few full scholarships. the 7000 is automatic

Look into the Wells Scholarship or Kelley Scholars if you're looking for a full ride. Your test scores aren't overly impressive, especially considering you are a business major, but you have a 4.0 and rank #1. People do study here. There are some who graduate in 3 years, some take 5, depends on what you want to do and what you want to get out of college. I'm going for a dual degree, not a dual major, but getting two slips of paper from different schools, and I was told it could be 5 years, 4 if i'm motivated. It's not easy, i've been told from many people that classes are hard here. For scholarships, you will automatically get 7K/year from the IU Faculty Award. You could get a business scholarship from Kelley as well for Direct Admits. You could try for Kelley Scholars, the Mitte Scholarship, Wells Scholars, and for housing you could live in Residence Scholars for reduced room+board. There's also honors college scholarships. They have many different scholarships for minorities too.

Not if you get scholarships from the honors college, or from Kelley. There's also the Wells Scholarship. But 7K is the max faculty award that you will get, it's just hard to get anything from the honors college or Kelley, and the full ride Kelley Scholars and Wells Scholars are competitive as well.

Hey thanks for all that info. So for all the scholarships I will be automatically submitted right? I wont have to submit another application or supplement? Just interested, what are your two degrees?

No, the Wells Scholarship you have to get recommendations and you aren't automatically considered for. Same with the Mitte scholarship.

BTW - to put it in perspective, I was in a Direct Admit meeting today and there were about 300 kids there, so when they only give out 7 full rides through Kelley Scholars, it will be hard to get those, and for the B-School scholarships, they are mainly for minorities, first generations, financial need, certain religion, etc. It will be very difficult to get more than 7K per year, your test scores aren't above and beyond everyone here.

Well I am a minority and I am not a Christian so I'll give it a try forB-school scholarship. What religion do they the scholarships too?. Wolves do you know how many kids get in the hutton honors program? Is it not hard for direct admits? what about there scholarships? what are my chances for that honors program? Thanks a ton

Hey I have a 3.5 and 1350 (1600 scale)/2020 (2400 scale) composite...am I guarenteed for Kelley?

yes .

Cool...how bout honors college? Or with money? Or is that pushing it?

Honors College requirements are on the Honors website. If you don't meet Honors requirements, you can actually apply for admission, as it isn't too difficult. You'll get 7K/year to come to IU.
