NYU seems to have many more woman than men. What's the social scene like for women? Is it hard to meet guys, since there are so few of them?

Actually.... there are thousands of "them"....

Wow, I'm sure there're like NO guys in NYC. At all. Really.

all the guys in nyc are gay tho

haha jkjk.. but i HAVE seen lots of gay people (far more than melbourne (where im from ) at last :P)

It is New York City. There are a bunch of straight, fun guys. There are a bunch of gay, fun guys. It is such an overgeneralization to say that there are only a few straight guys- meet people....you'll find that that isn't true at all.

Outside of the Tisch school, you'll find that the vast majority of guys at NYU aren't gay at all.

NYU is a large school with many types of people, if you find it hard to meet straight guys, there is something wrong with you. This shouldn't be a problem--just go to any NYU area bar on a Thursday night.

I originally asked because the stats for NYU say there are many more female students than male students. Facing facts, part of college is the social life, so I thought it was a legitimate question.

Of course it is a legitimate question. Yes you are correct that there are more females than males at NYU, but when one considers how large NYU is in sheer numbers, this really isn't a problem.

jwblue: You shouldn't stereotype with regard to males at the Tisch school, because there are all types represented, just as in any other school/college anywhere.

yeah right, but if you ever find that there is a guy shortage, contact me and I ship them in from Jersey

haha, prior to coming to NYU, i was told all of the guys are gay, and that made me sad, but i was like, "hey, i'm sure there are SOME straight guys among the sea of gay men i will be swimming in for the next four years."

...THEN i got here

apparently, those who say all of the guys @ NYU are gay are just as wrong as those who say there are plenty of straight guys. i say this because there are NO guys. i live in third north and on my floor, there are NO male rooms, and the floor above us has one room of males. most of my classes & recitations are overwhelmingly female except calculus, conwest, and natural science lectures, no idea why, maybe because there's 100+ people in them?...my writing class has 3 males and 15 females...now i am drowning in straight females instead of the gay men i was promised :[

i doubt [and know], however, that everyone's classes are like this, its luck of the draw i suppose...and i meet plenty of guys from friends, going to parties, visiting friends' dorms, etc etc etc...so don't panic, you'll survive, but i think it was a good question, better than some people think... :D

ps: my favorite is the moms on the boards that are like "yeah, there are lots of types of people in tisch, not just gay men" like they go to school here, lmao

pps: there are other people in tisch besides gay men: females

ppps: do yourself a favor & don't take me seriously, cuz i'm totally kidding :D

treexoxo: I do hope you were just kidding. There are lots of types of people in Tisch, so you shouldn't stereotype.

nyumom: do u currently attend tisch?

Do you attend or know anything about the students at Tisch?

There was an interesting article yesterday (9/14) in the New York Post "Confessions of an NYU Freshman" which described in detail the social life at NYU.

I'm a hetrosexual guy. Will I have trouble meeting women at NYU ;)

woah dont go down that road, nyumom, you will lose. Unless you too attend, what do you really know? So give it a break with the PC stuff, and let everyone talk from THEIR experience. Like she said, a different lecture hall could be a whole other experience. PC is overrated anyway.

NJ1grlcrus: What do you know?

Does anyone have the article from the New York Post and if so, can you post it here?

Go to livejournal.com/community/nyu it's on there.
