Obviously good school academically and beautiful campus- but can anyone comment on the social scene as far as what there is to do around and about campus. there is no town really that you can walk to- do students take buses to malls, movies, food-

thanks!

Yeah, I believe there’s a bus that’ll drop you off at the mall/movies/grocery store/wherever. Also, TCNJ is basically right in the middle of Philly and NYC so lots of students take the train there. Plus, the school does a decent job of providing entertainment on campus. When I went on my first campus tour, I saw a sign for getting tickets to see Demetri Martin and Tucker Max just recently visited to discuss his book.

Actually I just ran into a parent of a recent TCNJ grad this morning and he was saying that his son felt that there was “nothing to do there” He came home a lot, but he did feel he got a good education and that it was the best state school in NJ.

Another friend has a son and daughter there now. The son comes home almost every weekend. The daughter not so much. I suspect it depends on your personality and the friendships you form as to whether you think there is enough there.

It is what you make of it. My d does not come home and has made friends with those who stay on campus. There is a shuttle that takes the students to the movies, mall, etc. She has also been on several trips tp NYC and Wash DC where the school provided bus transportation for minimal cost. The school also offers numerous on-campus activities such as concerts, movies, etc.
Because most students live within an hour or two from campus, there are many students who do go home. However, my d socializes with those who stay and she is having a great time!

I agree. There’s plenty of great activities offered. It’s just up to you as to whether or not you take advantage of them. I live an hour away and the only weekend I plan on spending at home is Easter weekend. Other than that I’ve only left for breaks.

The majority of people stay, a few go home on the weekends. The one thing I dislike about TCNJ though is the hassle to find stuff to do on/off campus. Since you can’t have your car on campus, the freshmen are forced to rely on the loop bus, which takes you to a bunch of cool spots (movies, outlets, food, you name it). The only thing though, is the loop can be a major pain in the ass to use. So a lot of people (like me) sneak their cars up here from home

;)

where do you keep it? dont you need a permit to park?

You can try your luck with it in one of the lots on campus, although you’ll probably get a couple of tickets if you keep it there for a while. Otherwise you can keep it off campus on a nearby side street if you don’t mind leaving it on the side of someone’s house, lol.

Yes you need a permit, freshmen can buy a 2-week pass for 50 bucks.

I think you can also keep your car in one of the lots; you just have to get a visitor’s pass or something every morning.
