Social Scene?

I saw the same topic in the USC forum but since I'm probably going to UCLA, I want to know about the social scene at my future school. :-)

I've had an eclectic bunch of friends throughout high school...many of whom are the artsy types who aren't aiming to get into prestigious colleges but I'm sure will have successful futures anyway. Obviously, everyone got into UCLA by working hard in high school, but I'm wondering if I'll meet people who aren't always worried about grades/studying and might want to hit up some alternative rock venues like the Troubadour or Knitting Factory with me?

oh hell yes. there are all different types of people at UCLA, you just have to find your niche. but i'm SURE that you'll meet people who are willing to hit up venues with you, and believe me-- a ton of people i know only worry about studying when it gets to be finals time :)

I'd say our school has a healthy balance between work and play. You shouldn't have an issue finding people . . . finding efficient transportation is a different thing . . .

^ well said lol

Don't sweat it. When I came here, I thought everyone would be super studious and what not. SO NOT TRUE. It is actually kind of rare to have the super studious, 24/7 studying type. I know a total of like 5 people like that, but they are crazy. Actually some of them don't even do so well. LOL.

Me too. . . and then I realized it was unnecessary to read 500 pages/week.

They're called engineers or overzealous "Pre-Meds" (status-pending). Poor souls. Study 24/7. Curve-setting... someone will always fail. . .

You'll most definitely find them. You'll find people to hit up Third Street with, take you to BrewCo. on your 21st birthday (or maybe prematurely before that), or catch Dane Cook "(or whatever) at the Knitting Factory, or join the Korean Culture Association...they're everywhere. You'll be fine.

i saw dane cook anddddd got his autograph at the laugh factory!

We're enginerds, get that right! We wear our pants super high, wear thick frame glasses, pocket protectors and have poor hygiene and spit when we talk. Sarcasm

Every major will have some nerdy and some laid back people. You'll find your clique or people you can associate with at UCLA due to its diverse nature.
