Soft contact lens

I’ve worn gas perms my whole life. Tried soft twice, the 2nd time maybe 30 years ago and it just felt like they were drying out my eyes and squeezing my eyeballs. So doc asked if I wanted to try again and gave me some free disposable ones. I pulled one out and good grief! It was so big, literally bigger than my eye when I’m pulling my upper and lower lids apart. I mean…I don’t know how I’d even put it in my eye.

Are yours that big, whoever wears them? They look like they’d literally cover the whole eyeball.

Haha, yes they are huge!

Yes, the soft lenses are substantially larger than gas perms. They are larger than my iris by I good amount.

I find them very comfortable though but I bet there is going to be an adjustment period.

I open my eye really wide and just pop it in but I’ve been wearing them on and off since I was a teen.

Good luck!

I’ve worn soft contacts almost my whole life (since the mid 80s), so they seem normal to me. But the soft contacts today are not the same as the soft contacts back then. The daily wear are so much more comfortable.

Are they all bigger than your eyeball when you’ve pulled the lids apart? Seriously, they are bigger. It’s like I’d have to try to slide it under a lid.

Yes, mine are larger than my eyeball.

I simply open my eye and put it in. Size? Never noticed a problem and I have worn contacts for 50 years.

Ok. So, how do you put it in if it’s bigger? Do you hold it in the center and touch the center of your eyeball there with it and it just somehow pops in there? I guess I don’t understand.

I typically look up, stick the contact in the middle of my eye, and then move my eye down until the lens slips onto my eye.

Long time soft contact lens wearer. A quick google search yielded several videos that might be helpful. I was going to describe my technique, but the videos do it better. The lenses flex and your aim need not be perfect, as you can blink them into place if they are relatively centered. It becomes automatic with a little practice. Good luck!

LOL. Yeah they are big but never bothered me. On the plus side they are hard to lose.
Open eye wide. Pull down your lower eyelid. Look down and pop in. You’ll get better.

I wore soft lens meant to keep for six weeks (they never lasted that long) and my eyes always felt dry. The daily contacts were a game changer–they were like putting a drop of water in my eye and were great. Also better for me because sometimes I would rather wear my glasses.

Your vision with soft lens probably won’t be quite as sharp as it is with gas perms. OTOH you quit worrying about losing them.

I found the daily lens more comfortable. And cheaper in the long run if you like to give your eyes a rest at times. Plus you get rid of the cleaning routine and all the solutions.

I tried several different brands (all free from optometrist) and they were difinitely different. Even some from the same brand but in different versions made a big difference in comfort. Think I ended up with Acuvue Oasys.

I’ve worn them for so long, that it’s just second nature now. But I remember helping the kids learn. Older S has the LONGEST eyelashes ever. He struggled for quite a while. Kept blinking them out.

I agree with those to watch videos. That would likely be the most helpful. But if you keep at it, you’ll get it. Older S did!

Exactly

I no longer wear contacts, but I did wear them for many years. I am proof that not everyone can wear just any contact. I went to an eye doctor who was so awful at fitting contacts - when I told him that the ones he fitted me with were very uncomfortable, I was given a bunch of different brands & told to try each pair to determine what was best. I went to a different eye doctor who had no problem finding me a properly fitted pair. Don’t hesitate to return to the eye doctor if you think you might need a double check on the fit FOR YOU.

Thanks all. My son stopped by and his are definitely smaller than these. These are called Acuvue Max

Those appear to be daily lens?

I just checked ours. We all have acuvue, and all of ours are different but none are the max! H has oasys (his aren’t daily), older S oasys 1 day, younger S moist, and I’m in the Trueye.

So as someone said above, there are a lot of options even within one manufacturer.

Acuvue Max has a 14.3 mm diameter. What lens are you wearing?

Did you get the lenses from your optometrist? Did they not teach you how to put them in? I would call the office and let them know you are struggling.
