I took the November SAT and just got my scores back. I'm not applying to any Ivys, but I am applying to some engineering schools and I have some questions. I got a 530 in Reading, 570 in Writing, and 800 in math for a 1900; which is below the average SAT score for the schools. My question is: Will engineering schools look at my math score more? Or will it not matter since I'm below the average score regardless? Should I send a different SAT with a higher over-all score? Or does an 800 in Math look better? Thanks!

Although engineering schools are very interested in a student’s SAT Math score, admissions committees do pay attention to the other scores (CR, W) as well.

Many schools will superscore an applicant’s SAT results. Check the admissions website for each school for more details on this.

If the school to which you’re applying superscores the SAT, then you should send in your SAT scores that contain the highest section score (CR, M, W).

The schools dont super score. I already checked.

This is currently my highest SAT score, but Im taking the December one. Im not sure if I can get another 800, I honestly think I got lucky.

You should be able to improve that Writing score if you put in the proper time/effort/practice. I’ve worked with non-native English-speaking students who score 700+ on the Writing section. It takes some time to learn the grammar rules and see enough practice problems to score consistently in that range, though.
