GW was my safety school in high school, so I just can't escape this nagging feeling that I would really want to transfer somewhere better.

I am VERY much aware that my GPA is pretty bad, but I really would like to get of GW as soon as possible (i.e. fall 2011) for a various number of [legitimate] reasons. I'm a very strong writer (hope to be an English major) so I know I could write a great transfer essay, and I'm certain I could get at least "good" recs from two of my profs. Schools I am currently thinking about applying for transfer include (but are not limited to) Vandy and Northwestern.

Be careful asking for a reality check on College Confidential haha…You won’t get a realistic answer. Are you thinking of Georgetown? I applied to GWU and GTown as a transfer got into GTown denied at GWU, so it does happen.

"Could you elaborate on your reasons for leaving GWU, I’m thinking of transferring there next fall… "

Don’t get me wrong, most people here love it, which is why I’m so concerned with how much I don’t like it. For me, the fact that GW lacks a campus was a major concern before I even got here… I thought I would get over it, but I haven’t. I’m looking for a college atmosphere that is at least somewhat academically competitive which is NOT the case at GW; everyone is concerned with what club to go to on Tuesday night. I really just don’t fit in here… I’m not from New Jersey, I’m not a hipster, I don’t fake tan, etc. For me, this population just seems way too homogeneous and I want more variation. There are some academic reasons as well, but if you’re looking here just keep in mind that the location is great and DC is a really nice city to be in, especially for school since there are a bunch of other colleges close by.

I only took 14 credits this semester, and I would only consider one of my classes to have been “extremely rigorous” (biology for bio majors) and got stuck with a “B” on my transcript even though I had an 88 (no +/- for that class)… still upset about that lawlzzz.

I’m not thinking about Georgetown at all… I find the campus to be pretty unattractive, the Jesuit part of the school freaks me out, and coming from GDub I’d just feel like a traitor.

In what world is a 3.5 GPA considered to be “pretty bad?” I don’t understand why you would feel the need to put yourself down like that. If you’re able to write a strong essay and obtain two solid letters of rec, i think you’d have a chance at Vanderbilt. Just by sifting through the Vanderbilt Transfer threads from the last two years, it seems as if a fair amount of people got in with GPA’s of 3.5 or lower in some cases.
