son working at school!

vearing off-topic, but Mathcounts and AMC are both great programs. Check out the books at www.artofproblemsolving.com to prepare for math competitions. Vol. 1 is appropriate for Mathcounts and AMC-10, vol 2 moves up into the higher level high school contests.

Texas137:

EF already got those books and he is working on them, still thanks for the infor.

I am going to send the letter of your lastest version out tonight, hope everything goes as we expected.

Thanks to you and many others

Amother, I am not labeling you as someone who wants a fight. I have gone through so many battles with 9 kids, still have 3 little ones in the lower grades, 2 in highschool, that I am battle scarred. I can smell the fumes of trouble in these situations a mile away. You don't want to win a battle and lose the war. I guarantee you that the minute you contact the principal, he will buzz the librarian and GC to hear there side of the story, and I can already hear that chorus. You can come out of this smelling pretty badly and your son too, as though he does not want to do any work unless he gets something for it. Mind you, I do not agree with what the librarian is doing and it makes me mad how lazy some of these people are and how they take advantage of such situations. But I have been around the block on this sort of thing and have found that if you cannot sweet talk the person directly involved in some way and it comes to a big fight, it can take the whole school year before a resolution comes around and it can be uncomfortable for the kid who has to face the music everyday. You do have to weigh all of those factors in the situation.

Hi, All:

I like to give you an update about my son's situation at school.

After I send out the letter on Sunday (1/2/05), the Counselor called me on next Monday afternoon, and told me that the principal is moving EF from library to main office, EF will still be given some work to do, but not as much as before and the school is considering issueing the service credites for the work he has been done in the past and will be done in the future.( I didn't mention the credit things on my last letter)..........not sure what is coming, so I just said thanks for doing so.......(I am slow on conversation).........

A week has past, so far my son seems like it. He was given something to do for three days in a week, but they were all small works like delivering mails, stuffing the envelopes etc, for about 10-20 minutes each day. He said he is happy this way.......he can do something for his school at sametime he got a lot more time to study......

I don't know why the school has to have kids to do some work, but since EF is happy, I think I already got what I want........

Jamimom: Thanks for advice, I will pay attention to what's going on in the school, and I am having my finger crossed, hoping I will not win the battle but loss the war......

Thanks to you all, texas137, Marite, Jamimom, Mr.B and TheDad and many others, thanks for all the advices and sugesstions.......I really appreciate them. Seeing EF coming back from school one day, with excitement in his eye saying:' Mom, Today,I finished a whole chapter of AOPS book in school'. I was so happy that he finally got to do what he wants to do so much...most of his school day is boring to him, now at least he can make part of it not that boring .......

Btw, this past Sunday, EF just won first place for junior division on the State Piano Teacher's Associtation Piano competition........a little happier at school definitely comtributed some to this winning.

Take Care

Well that's good news! I was wondering what happended. I'm glad everything is working out for your son.

amother:

Thanks for updating us. It's great that your son is happy and is able to pursue bothe his math and music interests and still feels that he is contributing to the school! A very remarkable young man.

Marite, Thanks for the nice comment.

I am happy for EF and for you. Thanks for letting us know how this played out. Your son does sound like a fascinating young man. Hopefully you find a good placement for him for highschool. Good luck.
