Hello,
I am a freshman next year and have all honors classes next year- Biology H, Algebra 2 H, etc. I have been doing karate for six years and I plan to develop interests in public speaking and medical research this summer by joining New Jersey Orators, Model Congress, NJ M.U.N., and am going to be introduced to a medical professor at Princeton.
Am I on a good track to get into an Ivy and what are some of the best pieces of advice at this time in my life to get into an Ivy?
Woahhhhhh you’re only a freshman! Slow down :P. I was very much like you in high school though. As a graduated senior, I can tell you that there is no fast track to an Ivy. No matter how qualified you think you are, it’s honestly a crap shoot and you are competing against people with similar stats. Considering you don’t have a GPA or SAT/ACT scores yet, score high on those to put yourself in the best position. Also, depth- not breadth- is what colleges look for in ECs. And if you can, make them different. Schools would rather see a horseback-riding singer than an athlete who plays 3 sports. Try to be as well-rounded as possible, without spreading yourself too thin. Good luck!
Thanks :). Do you think my hobbies are unique and well-rounded enough?
For your EC’s, do what you enjoy, not just to get into a specific college. Your passion will show through if you pursue what interests you.
