Sophmore Dorm Choices

Does anyone have any advice for what the best dorms for your sophmore year. I would like to room with 4 or 5 of my friends. Can you give me the plus and minuses of the upperclassman dorms and how the process works. Thanks.

The four main ones on the quad (Poteat, Davis, Taylor, Kitchin) are probably the best ones to shoot for, as they're the closest to everything and you can get a suite with your friends. Basically, how it works is that you each get randomly assigned a housing number and whichever of your friends has the highest number can be the one who picks where you're going to live. I think you can pick from a 4, 6, 8, or maybe even 10 (?) person suite in those four dorms, and you just say you want to live together. If you have a high enough number, you should be able to get what you want. I think those four dorms are virtually the same...there's one bathroom to a suite. The six person suites are the only ones I'm familiar with, and I know they have 2 doubles and 2 singles that are more generous than the singles in freshman dorms.

Huffman/Efird are more for people who don't really have a big group of friends they want to live with and either want to live with just a roommate or just get a single. Martin is out beyond Polo, and is kind of where the kids with low priority numbers end up. You probably can't get into Polo/Student Appts as a sophomore because your number won't be high enough.
