Sophmore English?

Hello, fellow readers. I am currently a freshman in high school, and I cannot decide on which kind of English II (known as English 10 in some schools) I want to take. I do not know if I should take English II or English II with Honors. Here is some statistics to help better determine:

*I currently am in English I with Honors

*I am a straight A student, earning any range of A’s in all subjects

*English is not my forte. It is the worst of all my subjects, with the grading period average being a 92.

*My 1st semester English I average was a 92, and my midterm grade was a 90. Both were extremely difficult to achieve.

*While looking the English material up, I discovered some of the stuff done in my classroom was already being done by 12th graders.

*I am too much of a perfectionist.

*I am a very worrisome person. I feared a lot and nearly got sick while studying for a Frankenstein test, which would count as 25% of my total average for that specific 6 weeks (I did the calculations to determine what grade I needed to get an A in the class, but I finished the test with a 97 and a 92 for that specific time period).

*My school is extremely competitive. Almost every other student in the grade is taking English II with Honors.

Please tell me what you think I should do, because I don’t want to end up in an honors class where I get B averages, but at the same time, it would be kind of sad for me not to take English II with Honors if I am acing the on-level classes. Tell me what you guys think, thank you, and have a nice day.

Do you just have a really difficult teacher? Talk to sophomores who take English 2H (if you have friends in the grades above?). My English 1H teacher was by far the toughest of all the honors sections. I earned a B through hard work, and then my English 2H teacher was ridiculously easy and I slept through an A+.

I really love English, though. If you’re not passionate about the subject, it’s not really worth it to make yourself miserable. in the long run, one class you don’t want to take in a subject you don’t like will not be important to future success.

I’m now a sophomore and I actually was in the same position as you because I got a 92.52 (barely an A) in Honors English 9 (Honors English I). I don’t consider myself that good at English because I struggle with writing skills. But I still took Honors English 10. Why did I do that. Our school goes on a semester schedule so I just ended Honors English 10 with a B+. I really regret my decision and I don’t know if I should take AP Lang. But if you think you will do well, by all means, take the course. Talk to sophomores who are taking the class for the best advice.

just take honors. even if you get a B in one quarter, it would average to A. Most people in my school who take regular english aren’t very intelligent, so if you take regular english you might find yourself surrounded by people who don’t do stuff and will drag you down.
