what dorms do freshman stay in?

Can somebody give me a list of the most popular dorms that freshman stay in and maybe a brief summary of them? I was told most were housed on north campus which is fine by me near the football stadium rec center and dining halls

Are any air conditioned? Which are the nicest?

And at maryland do you get to request your top choices for dorms that are reasonable? I was able to do this at two other schols I applied to. I know I can't request Oakland or anything extreme but if i put down reasonable choices does housing view these requests?

The only North Campus dorms that will have A/C next year will be LaPlata and Denton. LaPlata is usually mostly sophomores. Denton might be too…not sure because they just installed A/C for next year there and moved the Honors College out, so now that dorm is open for others. But sophomores may have requested it above the others on North Campus so there may not be as many spots for freshmen there.

FWIW, the “official” term at UMD is “Residence Halls” so if you do any searches on the UMD website, you’ll mostly find info on “Dorm Ethernet” connections if you search for “Dorm”.

For whatever reason, ResLife likes “Residence Hall” better than “Dorm”. Go figure.

thanks for all the help just one last question so is there a way for me to request residence halls or anything or is it completely randomized at maryland?

I thought that the ResLife “questionnaire” has a place for choices, but rarely (if ever) does it make a difference for freshmen. Assuming you are not in some special program with defined housing, you’ll be placed in an available space.
