Sophomore move-in

So I'm a rising sophomore, and my parents want me to book a ticket to RDU now so the price is cheaper. I'll probably move in on the 21st (day dorms on West open), but is there a certain time by which I need to arrive so as to get my room/bathroom keys and stuff? Thanks!

No one? :(

There is nothing on the website:

Residence Life and Housing Services :: :: Housing :: Opening

We have found West Campus move in and out to be notoriously unorganized as opposed to East campus.

I would call or email:

Residence Life and Housing Services :: :: Contact Us

Calling is better than emailing. Last summer it took almost a month and a half to even get a reply through email from RLHS.

I know, which is why I was asking if there are any juniors/seniors/alums/parents on these boards who would know. I know move-in is on the 21st (it said if you're a FAC you can request to move in before the 21st, so I assume the 21st is general move-in) but what time?? I'll call soon if I don't get a response here, but overall RLHS drives me mad...

Do we have to move in on the 21st on West or could we move in earlier even if we are not FACs?

You can't move in early unless you've been approved to do so. Each dorm on west campus will have the RAs in one common room and you'll go there to get your keys and a parking pass. You'll then have exactly a half hour to move your car in front of the dorm and unload your stuff.

How long will the RAs be there? If I move in at like 8, can I still get my keys?

8 is probably considered "after hours" but there's generally an on call RA that you can call and they can bring you your keys. its just generally advisable to get there during the daytime (i think before 6pm? that time stands out in memory, though it's been a while) to just roll up and get the keys. its not as organized as freshman move in-- like this is just come and go at your convenience, so west move in is just really a window of time over a span of like five days.

By the way, does anyone know when FACs are supposed to arrive on campus?

no idea, but isn't it something like a week before orientation begins for the first years?

My D is a FAC and she says it is the 15th.

To the best of my recollection, I think the latest the RAs were passing out keys was 5 P.M. After that you either had to go to a special office or just stay with your friends for the night. Eitherway, I think its best to plan so you get TO Duke (not land in NC) before 5.
