Any juniors/seniors/knowledgeable sophomore can tell me whats the advantage of moving in Aug 23 as opposed to Aug 24? Do most non freshmen move in the 23rd or later?

I moved in on the first day they opened dorms last year...which I believe was the same day as freshman move in. It was pretty hectic towards the beginning of the day. I waited in line forever to get my key, and had to park 80 miles away to move in my stuff. The 2nd move in day was equally as hectic around my building, so I'd say there's really no advantage to the 23rd over 24th. The 23rd you get the people who are so excited they can't even wait to get back, but since the 24th is a friday, I suspect it will be busier with families because it's closer to the weekend (I know that's why I plan on moving in the 24th). I'd suggest either day, but later in the afternoon, just to beat the crowds. It may be a bit hotter, but it will be less stressful.

I mean, as opposed to real advantages, you get more time to just hang out I guess? I really enjoyed having like, 4 days or so to get my room together/not sleep because I was getting my room together/catch up with friends/go out without homework to worry about. And believe me...the more days for that the better. You think you have everything you need for your room, but remember that your room will be different, and you may find yourself needing to make 80 target runs before classes even start. It just kind of makes things less stressful, IMHO. But really, it probably doesn't matter too terribly much.

I am a freshman and we move in on Tuesday, Aug. 21st this year so Aug. 23will probably be less crowded.

Makes me glad I'm moving in a few days before the freshmen because of job training :)

i say the absolute worst day to move into west campus is the day of convocation since ALL of the freshmen and their families are on west, and it's miserably hectic. if you're going to move in that day -- get to campus late in the afternoon.

in response to abena, the 23 WILL be hectic throughout the day on west, if only because it's a thursday and returning students want to go to orientation parties (entirely truthful). i found my two years on west that it tends to move smoothly, it's a little crazy, but it's fine -- what worked best for my family was to get there the evening before we intended to move in, get my key right as the office was closing, put some things in my room, but not really worry about unpacking or anything. have a nice dinner, make a few late night target/best buy/whatever runs, maybe drop stuff off? really eliminates crowds.

Convocation's on the 22nd this year, so no worries about that for you guys. :)
