How does one attain "sophomore standing"? How many passed AP tests make you eligible? Are all tests (ie. Enviro/stats vs. Chem) weighted equally when calculating eligibility?

I think it should be around 30, since the average workload for students is 15 us/semester.
Not all AP are weighted equally. I got 5.3 units each for Physics B,Bio,Chem,CalBC, while only 2.7 for gov, and none for Physics C Mech-C E&M.
It might depend on your major & college as well, I'm not sure.

yup, and you usually only need 3s on the APs...lol.

Not entirely so, nikeswooshguy. It depends on what you want out of them, what your major is, and what your college is. Twib, it does depend on college and sometimes on major.

For most majors in the college of Letters and Science.

This is for the college of engineering:

Q. What AP tests should I take (or will I get credit for)?

A. The College of Engineering gives AP credit for most AP tests. Depending on the test and score, students will get UC credit and/or College of Engineering subject credit.

Thirty units makes you have Sophomore status. Don't worry about it that much, though. Get Ap credit where you can, but don't obesess over it or academic status.

Don't be too hung up on sophomore status. Take AP tests that will meet specific requirements for your college and major. 2.7 or 5.3 units that meets no requirements is pretty useless and may not be helpful in helping you graduate faster.

wait... so does 60 credits make you a junior then?

Technically yes. Though I'm not sure what good this does; I'll be going in with something like 67 units but will still have to be there for at least three years, as you have to apply separately for Haas (business), cannot apply for Haas as a freshman applicant, and I didn't have all the prerequisites to apply to Haas as a transfer.

it matters for housing, too, if you stay in the dorms after your first year.

uh no, it doesn't mrniphty

They go by year, not standing, at least when I called and asked if second years but junior standing folk could live in one particular upper-div only housing.

The only deal that i got with sophmore standing last year (as a first year), was slightly better telebears. If anything, its more of an ego thing. However, this year, (as a second year), i have senior standing.....which doesn't really matter to me because i'm taking upper division and hence am not competeting with others not in the major to get seats....

i thought they counted academic standing for upper div housing. hmm, i guess i filled out my housing app wrong.

Call them!

its not that big of a deal...........except it'll prolly be harder for you to get housing =]

eh, the whole standing thing is just a pain in general. my status over winter break changed from frosh. to soph. to jr. and back to frosh. (i'm a first year). ap credits are pretty straight forward, although as DRab pointed out, it varies by college. it's the ib credits that get a little tricky.
