I would like to transfer into the second year at UIUC, (I am currently a high school senior who got denied admission with a 3.55 gpa (will be ~3.7 at time of graduation and a 31 ACT) I will likely have >30 credit hours by the time I apply due to taking classes this summer at a local CC and I plan on trying for a 4.0 GPA . If my plan succeeds and I manage to get 30 credit hours/4.0 GPA before applying what are my chances for getting into integrative biology ? I hear that sophomore transfer is very hard, but I am willing to dedicate a lot to this.
I’m going to be a sophomore transfer this fall (37 hours) so I can help out a little. From what I was told by some friends when it comes to the sciences, GPA is important, but so is experience. Good grades can only get you so far, experience will get you where you want to be.
How many hours did you have when you applied? Also what do you mean by “experience”?
24 when I applied, taking 13 this semester. Internships, research, etc. I’m pretty sure the things that got me in was the fact that I was published, conducted solo experiments, had an intern and volunteered at one place for a long period of time.
Also, having the requirements for sophomore transfers is a must. Check the handbook for what is needed (course wise) and make sure to take those classes.
Thanks! I have done well in science Olympiad (national science contest things) this year which should help as well as volunteering, I also plan to do undergraduate research and I can easily get all of the requirements done so I hope I can potentially be there in fall 2016!
