I am applying for the fall 2011 at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign for English.
Last semester I was at a Big 12 university and received a 3.5/4.0 GPA
This semester I am taking 18 credit hours of transferrable credits needed for the major
I scored a 25 on my ACT and have recently retaken the test.
My high school grades were a 2.7/4.0, low.
I would like to know what my chances are for getting into the school as a transfer.

You’ll definitely be accepted. Congrats!

You do not say what college (and major) within the university. Assuming Arts & Sciences, you have a chance but still somewhat of a reach. When transfering into junior year all that matters is college grades; when trying to transfer into sophomore year, high school grades and test scores are still important and UIUC gives preference to those whom it believes likely would have been admitted freshman year and your high school grades do not indicate that, but current college grades give you a possible shot.

The college is LAS for English and my second choice major is Spanish.
They say if one program is more available, they will put you in it. I am thinking that Spanish is more of a possibility than English. Would this possibly help my chances of getting in?

Seats available for a particular program is always an issue in admitting transfers, the more there are and the lower the number of applicants for them the better your chances. However, it is hard to say whether Spanish will actually create the higher probability, for example there are just far more seats for the English department simply because it has more resources and accepts more freshman than those accepted for Spanish. In other words, English may get more applicants but they are competing for more seats than available for Spanish. What you don’t know at this point is how many seats they expect will be open (although they estimate) and, more important, how many will actually apply to transfer for English or Spanish, something they will not know for certain until all transfer applications are in.

If I am denied I have the option to appeal my admissions decision if I have “new information”. Would my second semester grades count as this? I feel that if I continue to get good grades in college it would prove much more than my high school grades. Also, how much of the admission DOES depend on the previous colleges attended, essays, and current courses. I have matched my current courses to each major with UIUC equivalent classes.

Hey i have applied 2 uiuc-school of business for the fall 2011 sem
I am a freshmen at present, my current gpa is 3.8
SAT score is 1630
High school grades are average
What are my chances of getting in ??

do you have calculus? If not, your not getting in.

Dakhors, I was in a similar situation last year. Tried to get into UIUC Business as a sophomore transfer with a 4.0. Unfortunately I was denied, because I didn’t have the required credits for them to not consider my high school record which was garbage. I’ve done a lot of research and found that if you wouldn’t have gotten into Business as a Freshman, then you probably won’t get in. However, it is A LOT easier to get in as a Junior.

@ dollarbill- i have done calculus for business but i cud not cumplete the other math requirement of sum finite math as i was not required to take that in my freshmen year as i was placed directly into the calc class… so what do u think of my chances ??

@kev- my sat score is a bit poor but my high school record is pretty decent… i have a 84% n a 82% in my board exams…
