Sororities at UGA

I have a friend whose daughter will be attending UGA this fall. What are the sororities like on campus? Do you really need to be in one to feel included? How time consuming? What is pledge like? Expense? Snobbiness? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

From what I (a guy) have heard...
-The sororities have less emphasis on partying than the frats, but that's not exactly saying much.
-Rushing is the hardest part. It's a grueling, week-long process that taxes many girls to their limits. However, once they get a bid it's pretty much over- no pledgeship or anything.
-Don't get much of a sense of snobbiness from the sororities, but not sure how girls feel about them.

Go to the Greek Life page on the UGA website, find which sororities are on campus and start lining up recs for the rushee immediately! Recruitment is early August.

I am in a sorority at UGA. My advice would be to rush. Alot of girls I know that didn't rush have felt somewhat left out this year and are planning on rushing in the fall, although getting a bid will be much harder for them because they are sophomores. Rush is pretty brutal because UGA is such a large school and there are around 1200 girls rsuhing every year. My advice would be to get reccomendations for each sorority early. The time committment is not too bad. Chapter meetings are usually held once a week, and most sororities have pledge meetings once a week during pledgeship which can last anywhere from 1 month to a semester. Most of the sororities are quite expensive. First semester dues can range anywhere from 800 to 1400 dollars.
I was really glad that I rushed and have really enjoyed my sorority. It has made my college experience full of fun experiences and lots of friends.
