I am a transfer student to ucla and i am rushing for a sorority in the fall. I have a question:

I dont like to drink very much, past a normal drunken feeling because i tend to blackout, so will a sorority still accept me and hang out with me if i dont party that hard? I normally party with my boyfriend so i dont do anything stupid, but my boyfriend and i are transferring to different schools this fall so he wont be around to keep me from doing stuff i might regret. I really dont want to blackout and make stupid mistakes.

thanks

I’m rushing this Fall too and I am definitely not a hard partier either. In fact, I don’t want to get drunk at all this semester. I’m just not into it.

What I’ve learned throughout life, is that the less you tell people the better. You don’t need to make a spectacle out of the fact that you don’t want to drink very much. It’s nobody’s business. You can still go to parties and have fun, and if you don’t make a big deal out of it, no one will notice whether or not you’re chugging down drinks. Just interact with everyone, have fun, and let loose - without getting trashed. All people will notice is that you are classy, not a sloppy mess. : )

Are you going into formal recruitment for the NPC sororities?

If so, don’t worry about this. NPC formal recruitment is dry, and there are several other strict rules. Just be yourself, present your best, and follow along the process. Everything else will fall into place. Since each campus differs, you should direct all your questions to the recruitment counselors of your campus. They are strictly forbidden from influencing or even contacting their sorority sisters during recruitment.

For the rest, all I have to say is: exactly how does a girl impress other girls by drinking much? Doesn’t that just make her an easier target?

i think it depends on your school. i know at some schools sororities haze and that this includes drinking and stuff, but at my school sororities definitely don’t haze and no drinking is ever mandatory–i have friends in sororities who don’t drink at all. you should probably try to find out what the deal is from and older friend at your school.
