sororities...serious about academics?

i know this is early, but does anyone have advice/info. about uga sororities that are more concerned with academics than other sororities, relatively speaking? my daughter was accepted EA and has expressed a moderate interest in sororities. honestly, i don't have a really positive opinion of sororities, though i did go to college and i'm willing to be convinced otherwise.

my daughter would fit in with outgoing girls who really care about their academics/grades, don't have tons of "party girls", are athletic and don't monopolize her time so she can't be involved in christian pursuits. thanks so much for any input. :)

I’m so glad you asked this! I recently graduated from UGA and am currently in law school in Athens as well.
There are 17 sororities at UGA and they vary greatly. They are all wonderful in their own way and each has a very unique “vibe.” Some are more academically focused than others but the sorority average is consistently several tenths of a point higher than the campus average. Normally Greek Life publishes a list of grade averages and Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Omicron Pi and Sigma Delta Tau are consistently in the top three, though normally almost all 17 have a great showing academically.

Several sororities also have a very strong Christian membership base and encourage involvement not only in various ministries but also within all parts of campus (philanthropy, leadership, etc).

I would recommend that your daughter go through recruitment! I was also very academically focused and extremely involved in high school and absolutely loved sorority life. With 17 to choose from, I certainly found a home with a great group of incredibly smart, beautiful, kind and involved women to spend my four years with.
