sororities

I know there's a thread from last year, but I wanted to get some new insight.

Chis and Thetas - serious hazing? How "Asian" are they? Are they totally whitewashed or totally like, pho-bulous? Do they party heavily or just go out for boba a lot?

Panhellenics? You have to register and pay a fee to rush? I always thought you showed up at a meeting and they tell you what events to go to. Is there the option of paying in person?

Can anyone give me any insight on what rush (for both agc and panhellenics) is like? Is it intimidating, wallet-emptying, chill, humbling or what? And how does the rest of the campus perceive the sororities?

Trashy anecdotes, or plain hating (BoHall, this means you. ...Please.) are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I think you have misconceptions of sororities.

Why would rush cost any $$? Why if you don't pledge? How discouraging is that?

Typical ABCs .. check out their websites. Go to rush to see if you get along with the sisters.

P.S: There's also this frat that's full of Asians. I forgot their name; they had bright green rush T's. Try AKPsi too, though that's a pro business.

P.S.S: I think moldau can help you more. Allie too.

And how does the rest of the campus perceive the sororities?

Delta Delta Delta (or Tri-Delt/Tri-Delta): "Try/Tri- Delta... everyone else has."

<a href="http://ucla.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2200246196%5B/url%5D">http://ucla.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2200246196</a></p>

Well, to get you started, you can start stalking/looking@photos from the actual sororities to get an idea of the demographics (outside of the pho-bulous)... to get an idea if they go out to boba or otherwise.

You can also post or look at old threads/posts on the UCLA LJ community... I know I've come across a thread about this topic.

HAHA *****es

that's why facebook is deactivated.... so that pnms cant look us up.

hibiscuspink, you can pm me if you're seriously curious.

but don't rag on tridelt, everyone's a slut!

I meant... pledging for Tri-Delta... not actually trying them out as sluts.

Aww... reactivate your FB and remove yourself from the search thing.

can't, panhellenic fines 25$ for the first day facebook is active, and doubles each day after.

That's why I created this thread, jerk

For UCLA specific rush information, see npcbruins.com.
For truly helpful rush advice, see greekchat.com and go to the recruitment section.
You will need to register in advance (deadline is 9/24) and you can do it online.
Here's my best rush advice: think for yourself. Why would you trust strangers and rumors to pick your friends for you? Go through rush with an open mind and see where you feel happiest.

why is panhellic making everybody disable facebook? several sorority girls on my list are doing htat.

That sucks that panhellenic forces you to disable facebook. I'm glad IFC doesn't do that.

Just in case anyone else is interested, I hit a bit of dirt here:

<a href="http://community.livejournal.com/ucla/1605716.html?thread=12490836#t12490836%5B/url%5D">http://community.livejournal.com/ucla/1605716.html?thread=12490836#t12490836</a></p>

Could anyone give me the pros and cons of rushing for fall or for winter/spring?

word. that explains why my kappa friends are.... -_- pnms?

Asian frats and sororities have the be the lamest establishments on campus...

The frats are nothing but wanna-be gangs for ex-nerdy asian guys who are way too into their ethnicity.

The sororities are nothing but a joke... basically a buncha trashy asian girls who wear way too few clothes and way too much make-up. It's like a brothel for the frats only its a bit incestuous because they call them sisters.

Just frats and sororities in general... if you need to pay for friends to be cool... you've got serious issues. Especially if you need to be surrounded by people who look like you. There's nothing but drama and a massive emptying of your parents wallets (because you know you aren't paying).

I'm an asian guy and I'll be honest, any asian sorority girl I meet is nothing but a trashy ho that I care not to get too close because she's a) a gold digger, b) a wannabe "azn" gangster, c) has a cloud of stds, or d) has slept with way too many loser ass asian guys who think they're all that.

And seriously, do you really like surrounding yourself with spoiled asian kids who think they're hot **** and go clubbing in koreatown every weekend. C'mon!

So final advice, if you're going to join a sorority, don't have anything to do with the AGC or even the pseudo-asian ones like AKPsi... learn some freaking diversity. Trust me... 99% of the asian guys you'll meet in that crowd are absolute trash... don't let 'em bring you down.

Could anyone give me the pros and cons of rushing for fall or for winter/spring?

Fall is the best time! Everything is new. People are more willing to crawl out of their shell. Yadadadada.

grumbles

$35 reg fee? sept. 17 to decide.

paying for friends? what if i don't make any friends?

agc has free rushes. is it worth it to be seen a trashy skimpy asian slut?

holy **** i need a blog.

Aha! Another question:

Is it common/advisable to rush as a second-year?

i was considering that, since i had trouble adjusting to workload my first year, but I mean, plenty of my friends handled it their first year fine.

oh please, your 35 dollars is nothing compared to what we have to spend. on clothes. and makeup. and dieting aids. and crest whitestrips. and shoes. specific shoes, and fugly lavaliers.

it's not even paying for friends btw, cause they really don't give a **** about you
