Hi everyone! First time poster here so I'm sorry if I post in the wrong spot or anything annoying like that. Okay I'm an undergrad student at UT Austin and want to participate in recruitment this year, but I need help getting recommendation letters. I spent 5 years in the Navy and just moved back from living overseas for 3 years so my teachers from high school (way back when I attended ;-D) I no longer have contact with, and I'm new to the Austin area. Are there any sorority moms or alumni in the Austin area that are willing to meet up with me and possibly write me letters, or put me in contact with people that would be willing to help me out? Thanks for reading my post!

Is there an Austin Panhellenic alumnae group? You could try asking for help from them.

Get in touch with one of the area Panhellenic alumnae groups, asking for random women to write you rec letters is not the way to go. In addition, it offends many sorority alumna

Thanks for the advice. I have contacted the Austin Panhellenic alumnae group, unfortunately, without receiving any assistance. I still have several months so I’m hopeful. I also do not plan on seeking a rec letter from anyone random. That was not my intent with this post. I’m looking for alumnae to meet up with me (to get to know me) not just write me a letter. Maybe I didn’t make that clear enough in my post as I should have.

This isn’t exactly UT Austin’s hot season for recs, so I wouldn’t be too concerned unless they don’t respond by April or so. Go over to GreekChat and read read read read read as much as you can on UT’s recruitment process as it’s highly competitive. Although you bring a lot to the table being a veteran, I would suspect your age will be an issue at a school like Texas. Do your research and keep an open mind, even if things don’t go well. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions

With your life experience and maturity, you want to spend your time hanging out with a bunch of 18 and 19 year old sorority girls? Really? I think you’re waaay past that stage in life.

LAK2014, if you’re still on here, find that Austin Alumnae Panhellenic [Austin Alumnae Panhellenic Association](http://www.austinpanhellenic.org/) and talk to or e-mail them again. Your best shot is the recommendations from alumnae that the AAP will help you with, where you can explain your desire to pledge a sorority. Go back to your hometown for recommendations - you need people who know you. And your high school teachers ARE still possibilities - you’d be surprised how many students they remember.
UT Austin has an extremely competitive recruitment. EXTREMELY. That means you will probably wind up at one of the smaller groups, or maybe even a Non-NPC group. There are other sororities that are multicultural or even major-related that would give you a sisterhood experience. Open your mind WIDE and go for it - good luck!
