Are there very many? Does this help me or hurt me in admissions? I am a Bangladeshi Muslim female from New York. Oh, and I'm a QB finalist,

All of those demographics you mentioned should help you I think. I don’t remember how many southeast asian minorities there are though, sorry. You can probably find race/religion/nationality breakdowns online?

I guess 2-3%, you can collect a sample, make some hypothesis testing to disprove my claim but I believe that it’s around 2 points.

2 points? I don’t get what you’re saying
But thanks!

Oh and I’m NOT Southeast Asian, I’m SouthWEST Asian Thanks!

Seems like you’ve got diversity they’re looking for. They’ve got a growing Muslim population and are in the middle of conversations of possibly hiring an Imam, but that all depends on funds of course. As for Bangladeshi students… hmm. I was friends with one back in the day, but Williams is no NYC. It’s a very diverse place for being a top school in cow country, but I found it a lot less diverse than I was expecting (granted my h.s. was over 50% ‘minority’ so I came in a bit biased… )

Hi beautyandvogue! Sounds like you have a lot going for you; props for applying to Williams! I wish you the best of luck.

I am a freshman at Williams this year. One of my closest friends in my entry is a QB scholar (it definitely helps!) and I serve on the Minority Coalition where we are working with the Muslim Student Union and the administration to allot money for a Muslim chaplain (like COols875 said). As you can see from the class of 2014 profile, we have several students in our class from Southwest Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia).

That said, if you come to Williams, you probably will not meet these people right off the bat, unless you get involved in the Muslim Student Union or Students for Palestinian Awareness (“SPA”- they have been super active this year and put on a DAM concert and documentary discussion).

I guess my suggestion to you is to send your Williams admissions officer more information about your life (updates in awards, honors, recognitions) from now until March. Also! If you get in, come to Williams Previews!
