South Carolina Honors College Acceptance

Anyone been accepted to the Honors College since the initial round went out before winter break? We thought decisions were rolling until mid February but haven’t seen anyone else say that received an acceptance.

@loulou13 This is not personally verified information but from what I’ve heard, Honors College acceptances are sent out in two separate waves. One wave was sent in December and another should, if this is true, go out around mid February. I don’t think there’s anything in between but I could very well be wrong.

Question: So does anyone know if all invites to McNair/Horseshoe interview weekend have been sent out or received yet? Tx and have a nice day.

What do you think of the Capstone program? That’s our next option if not in the Honors a college…

So my son was excepted to regular USC this week. Does the honors college letter come later? He was invited to the Top Scholars dinner last month to learn more about the honors college.

Do you get excepted to regular USC first? My son was excepted to USC this week but also applied for the honors college.

The earliest you will hear about Honors College acceptance is mid to late December. Another wave of acceptances goes out in February. Letters are mailed home in either case.

I know it’s hard to wait, and don’t worry if you don’t get your acceptance in December; many applicants don’t hear until February.

Yes the Honors College sends out acceptances separately. Then end of January (-ish?) they send out Top Scholar invites.

Any idea when the earliest Capstone invites are sent?

Site says early March. Just answered my own question.

My friend just found out today that she got in!!!

My D received her acceptance letter on Friday. Very proud of her and our stress level here at home (Maryland) has dramatically decreased!

Multiple sources have said that the Honors College acceptance letters DO go out in two separate phases; December and February. Good luck

Will you get a letter if you are not accepted to the honors college as well? I am starting to get very nervous now…

I think so, but they don’t finish sending out honors acceptances until mid february. You can call and ask.

DD’s counselor talked to someone there yesterday and he said that we’d hear in Feb., so I assume that means we’ll hear either way. Then if she does not get in, it’ll be another few weeks before finding out about Capstone! Ugh!

what is the best way to go about in joining the admitted Honors College groupme?

Question about Honors and Scholarships: My son hasn’t heard whether he was admitted to Honors yet. I hear that is coming next month. And I think he said scholarship letters are coming in March. His admission package said he qualified for “at least $x in scholarships” but it was significantly less value than in state tuition. My hypoyhesis is that the value in the letter was based on an algorithm that considered grades and test scores in an automated fashion and my hope is that an in person review will result in in-state tuition (his ACT score is 35). My question is that if he finds out he had been accepted into Honors is it safe to assume he will pay in state tuition (or better)?

And an unrelated question - wken students on CC refer to having exemplary LOR, how do they know that? Our HS guidance dept advises students that they can request to see the letters but that is not customary (and I believe they say that if you don’t trust the teacher to represent you well that you shouldn’t ask them to write a LOR). They strongly suggest the kids waive their right to see their LORs. I’ve also written LORs for employees that were pursuing graduate school admission. In my experience you don’t share these with the person. So I’m confused by the frequency of positive remarks people here make about how good their LORs are.

Many teachers let students read the LOR.

We were strongly advised to waive rights. I know that it is a box you check on Common App as to whether you have read it. Was told if the anwer is yes it can reflect negatively.
