Want to take my rising senior to visit Southern Competitive Schools during the third week of August. He is interested in economics and has some skills in design. Any ideas of how to arrange itinerary? Want to visit Emory, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Furman and possibly Duke. What would be the best airport to fly into, place to drive and flying routes to take. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Where are you coming from? Are you willing to fly between cities? These are pretty far apart. Tulane is the most outlier IMO. You could start flying into Raleigh and drive to Duke then down to furman (4 hr) then onto Emory (2-2.5 hr) then drive up to Nashville. Or do reverse. Fly to New Orleans? Or skip Vanderbilt and drive from Atlanta to Tulane.
Sit down with map and look at routes. While it seems like you could do furman to vandy directly, it is a cant get there from here situation. Have to either drive down to Atlanta and go back up or go up to Asheville nc and over.
Great info, thanks. Thinking of flying into Saint Louis seeing Wash U, driving to Vanderbilt, then Emory, then heading to Duke. Will skip Furman but where is Elon on this map? Worth seeing? Maybe save Tulane for another trip?
Elton would be on way to Duke from Atlanta (about 45 min away??). Furman would also on way if you go I-85 the whole way. If you want to look at smaller then Davidson also on way.
Like I said Tulane is totally different direction but prob as close to Atlanta as Duke. For the trip you describe (if dropping furman and Elon not necessary) I think you either go to Tulane or Duke from Emory. Don’t know which is easier to visit later.
