Hey I need some suggestions. My D, who is a first year, placed in 202 spanish even though she didn't even take it her senior year of high school and never really liked it. She didn't really feel that her teacher was all that great and they really didn't speak it that much in class. Inway, she went to class today and is now freaking out because she says that there is know way she can pass it. She says you must speak spanish or points will be deducted for using English and there is an oral part on the exam. She emailed the professor, and he referred her to someone else who emailed her and told her that you have to take the class that you place into. So...........she is freaking out!!!Anyone been in this situation or have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!!

This happened to my daughter last year, but with french.

I can't remember the section, but it was the fourth semester and she was placed in the accerlerated section. (There was also a regular fourth semester french.)

She did well on the test, but her speaking of french was terrible.

She went to the teacher and a department chair and they would not let her transfer out to the non accelerated class.

So she stayed in the class, spoke French poorly all semester. She said that half the class hated her and the other half pitied her. She also went in weekly to talk to the teacher and ask him questions that she did not want to ask in class. She really didn't want to take up more class time.

She has a really funny story about the day that they randomly chose someone to run the class discussion, and it was her. She thought that the class was going to walk out on her.

She took the final, with oral section and she got a B. Never so happy to have a B.

I still don't know why they wouldn't transfer her out.

yeah, this is the fourth section also. She said when she went to the class today, she said that everyone else seemed to understand everything and that she felt really uncomfortable and was trying not to make eye contact so that she wouldn't be called on. But according to the email she received from the I think, "Head of the Dept" you have to stay at the level you are placed?
This just doesn't seem right to me. I think she may drop the class and have to start another language....now she will have to find another class. She is supposed to meet with an advisor tomorrow
