Speech pathology

I'm an incoming freshman but want to know if Ucf is good for my major. My major is speech pathology. How is the major at Ucf? And is Ucf good with setting students up for jobs and internships?

The major is actually called Communication Science and Disorders (or just Communication Disorders at some schools). This major is offered at 6 state universities in Florida, including UCF. In my opinion, I would stay away from UCF for this major. I am currently in the major at UCF although I started at FSU. I transferred for personal/family reasons and totally regret it. FSU’s program has a higher ranking and more importantly is much more organized. The major is a closed program - they accept 90 students and there are 90 seats in each class. Advising gives you the list of classes and the order in which you will take them. You are GUARANTEED a spot in the class. The faculty work together as a team. The students are closer because you’re in the same classes - you’re all at the same level, it’s so much easier to form study groups because everyone has the same schedule. UCF’s program is so much different. It is an open program, you take the classes in whatever order you want, many of the profs are adjunct meaning they have no office hours and are not available to help you, students’ schedules are all different so it’s hard to work together. There’s also not enough spaces in the classes, so it’s hard to get done “in time.” Another point to consider is that when considering applications for the grad program, they accept more students from other schools than their own undergrad students - you really have to wonder why they don’t like to accept their own students. I hope this information helps you. If you have any more questions, just ask! Good luck!

FSU only admits about 35 students each year to its regular CSD master’s program. If about 90 students at FSU get CSD bachelor’s degrees annually, at least 55 of them will have to go elsewhere to get CSD master’s at other schools like UCF. There are no 100% total guarantees for anyone, anywhere.
