EDIT: Um, I don't think it's that much of a problem, really =P Disregard this post

Anyways, original rant (just in case it might spring out some thoughts):

Yes, so now we get auto-spell checkers on our forms! The Internet (and computer) shall make another component of education a waste of time. But oh, no, the stupid teacher unions don't want their art to be questioned.

Moreover, spelling does improve as we use it more. Certainly, if we find that we mis-spell a word too often, we naturally get more motivated to spell more correctly in the future

I think we waste a lot of time on school memorizing spelling words. Hell, it doesn't even change the meaning if we mis-spell. Alas, for the grammar mavericks wish to feel superior to others.

True though, memorizing some spelling rules can be helpful in the long-run. But I think that schools spend far too much attention on spelling per se. It gets excessive after say, grade 4/5. My school spent probably too much time on it (ugh, the memories fade...). And I know some fairly bad spellers who don't suffer much as a result of their bad spelling. At least allow them to study according to their own strengths more. Well, it isn't graded, so who cares?
