How big is berkeley's recreational center?
How much does it cost to use it?
Any decent?

UC Berkeley Recreational Sports.

That's the website for the RSF. There have been a couple other threads about it and other Cal gyms before, try taking a look at them for more opinions.

It's $10/semester (subsidized thanks to the majority of the cost being charged through your fees), which is a fantastic deal compared to a commercial gym. In my opinion, you can fit most of your average needs at RSF, and it's a nice and new gym.

Cardio machines -- ellipticals and treadmills -- have a rush hour, as does the weight room. There are lots of racquetball/squash courts you can reserve (and equipment to borrow). There's a big locker room and you can rent lockers by the semester. There are several gyms. There are lots of fitness classes -- Group X is free to members of RSF, so you could drop in on any of their yoga or cycling or swimming or mat pilates or whatever classes. There are sports clubs that work out of RSF as well, including ones like fencing (which also provides all equipment for members, and people who've never even heard of a foil are welcome to join) and the very popular martial arts.

Got any more specific questions?

What time is the rush hour for both the cardio machines and weight room?

There are several, and it really depends on the time in the semester. I know right around lunch time can be busy (around noon) and mid-morning is often busy (around 8, 9).

What times is it open? Is it open 24 hrs?

That's one of the questions that can be easily answered by going to the website.

It's different during the summer than during the school year, but for Spring Semester the RSF is open 6am-12am M-Th, 6am-11pm F, 8am-11pm Sat and 8am-12am Sun.
