Sports and other activities on Campus

I know this is probably going to sound really really stupid for you guys but the thing is that I'm not too familiar with The American Educational System, really 'cause I'm an international student and we do things very different in my country.

So anyways my question is basically about sports you could play in College.

In my country students MUST to play sports (whether they want or not) I think they need to be part of at least 3 sport teams (these are count as credits by the way, but you don't have to pay for them), and the thing about that is that you don't have to be good at it at all. The coach of a team can't tell you that you can't be part of the team because you basically suck. you sing up for whatever sport he/she wants. They basically teach you how to play and have some pick up games and stuff. Obviously, doesn't mean you are part of the team that will compete in the National tournaments against other Universities, you know the ones have are on TV,

I guess you can look at it this way: there are 2 teams the A team is the varsity team that represents the team in National Competitions where as the B team is just everybody who likes the sport and want to play or learn how to play for fun/recreation.

Is there anything like this in College here in the States? 'cause I would like to play some sport (anything) but I'm not particularly good at anything to be part of the varsity team (especially since I'm going to transfer to a Division one School). nr Am I interesedted in being part of the NCAA team. I would just like to do some kind of physical activity (something like Ultimate frisbee or whatever)on campus like that, without having to be part of a varsity team or anything like that, just play some pick up games to stay in shape, meet people and have fun that's all? Do Universities in The States offer anything like this? or do only NCAA athletes get to play sports here?

Most schools (all?) have intramural leagues set up where students can form their own team to play against other students in a variety of sports. It probably also depends on the school, but there are often multiple leagues set up so that you can play against other people with similar skill levels/experience.

don’t you have to be good at it to play for an intramural team???

and besides aren’t intramural only once a year??? which means that you will one get to play once, not whenever you want, right?

you don’t have to be good to play in an intramural team. some teams are more competitive than others. intramurals are held all-year long. some sports are played in the fall, winter, and spring like basketball.

You can probably find Ultimate clubs on campus. They’ll likely meet all year 'round.

mus play sports? What kind of dictatorship are you living in?

You don’t have to be good at all to play intramural. You can play in a really competitive league if you want, but there are also usually levels where nobody really cares about winning.
