Spring 2011 admissions cycle

FYI - If any of you want a tour of the campus, a chat about the core curriculum, etc., let me know. I was lucky enough to have a really helpful guy help me out when I was accepted, I’d be more than happy to pay it forward.

Send me a PM if you’re coming to NYC and want to meet.

Thanks for the offer, HelloJan. I hope to have reason to take you up on it.

I flew in just long enough to take the GSAE, wander the campus with a swarm of tourists and then walk to midtown.

Generally, when should we estimate our decision date? Four to six weeks after submitting our application or four to six weeks after our GSAE scores have been recorded? I submitted my application Sep. 14, but my transcripts weren’t all there until Sep. 28, and I only was able to take my GSAE Oct. 17. So I’m pretty confused as to which date I should be focusing on before I start worrying, haha.

Hey GTW

I’m not sure if they look at any material before they have the GSAE scores, but it sounds like you still made the deadline for ED, so I would start sweating bullets…

Well, I’ve already started the worrying process…

But I think we should have a decision by mid-November.

We’re in a similar situation with the GSAE. I took it on Oct. 16th, as did MC.

Hellojan, thank you! Really, that’s so generous of you. If I am admitted (fingers crossed), I might just take you up on your offer. I live in NYC and am really fighting the urge lately to just go sit on the steps in front of Low and pretend that I’ve already been admitted. Sigh.

Hey, no sweat. I’m not sure when you’ll be finding out, but, I’ll be here.

BoolaBoola, I called them today and they told me that one should start counting the days four to six weeks after the GSAE was taken, not after the application or transcripts were sent in. This means we shouldn’t necessarily expect anything until early to mid-November at earliest. I know AMorrison was in a similar position and received their acceptance two weeks after the GSAE but I bet that’s more of a rare exception than the standard.

I’ll start freaking out as early as possible, which should be Friday, Nov. 5, haha.

GTW–

That’s excellent information: thanks for making the call.

Since my anxiety already has momentum, I’ll just continue with it until I hear something one way or the other.

Thanks again!

That’s right, it’s four to six weeks after the application is complete, and its not complete until you take the GSAE. Good luck all!

OK. Deep breath. And exhale. OK. I’m trying so hard not to get my hopes up. Not only do I want to do my best to avoid disappointment but it’s also still too early to have an admissions decision made (right?). Nevertheless, that said…

I am now able to log on to the Financial Aid site that is linked from the application tracking page. I was not able to do so just a few days ago. I just logged in and it asked me to choose security questions in case I forget my password. I did that.

It then takes me to a main financial aid section. It has my name across the top and a drop down menu for choosing the “award year.” There’s an “Apply Now” section that, when clicked, takes me to a section with specific GS-related questions such as:
how many units will you enroll in this semester, etc.

I don’t know what to make of it. Well, I know what I WANT to make of it. But I’m going to do my best to remind myself that this doesn’t NECESSARILY mean anything, no matter that outward appearance.

Anyone else?

Hey MusaeumClausum…that’s awesome! Looks like you made it!

Sounds VERY promising, MC. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. Hope you get the call tomorrow morning…

I can’t even access the page now. Servers not responding.

Finally accessed page, but was unable to access FinAid.

I think you’re in, M.C.!

Wow. Now I’m getting anxious. This is incredibly exciting but I’m still going to try really hard not to make any assumptions. My GSAE isn’t even showing up on the tracking site yet! And obviously an admissions decision is not made without that score. But then again, AMorrison mentioned the score not appearing until AFTER the admissions decision was communicated.

I’m just going to sit and stare at my phone.

MC, I was told by a counselor that they don’t even really care to put the GSAE results up when that’s the last piece of the puzzle in a completed application. They usually just send the acceptance or rejection at that point.

Thanks for the info GTW; that makes sense.

Regardless of what may or may not be happening with my financial aid page, November is upon us; the waiting game intensifies for all involved. Good luck everyone! Hopefully those blocked phone calls and FedEx deliveries are just around the corner for us all.

Hello! I’ve applied for spring 2010 as well. Congratulations MC, from what I’ve gathered from previous GS threads it looks like your in a great spot. I had all my stuff in on Setp. 26th except for the GSAE which I took on Oct. 17th. Good luck to everyone who applied, I hope to see everyone in Jan.

RCave, awesome… the Oct. 17 GSAE in L.A.? I was there, too. What table were you at?

Wonderful, another applicant! Welcome rcave, and best of luck to you as well!

Hey guys!

they want to have an interview with me:( Kill me now…
