@pionoor, I can’t imagine your GPA being the problem. At 3.8 it seems that if there was a lot of competition for your major they would waitlist you first before rejecting you out of hand. It might be worth a call down to the admissions office or to your admissions counselor to try and see what the deciding factor was.

There is a particular course that is highly recommended to take, which is CS-SOMTHING. I couldn’t take it because my current institute doesn’t offer any equivalents to that course. When I filed the application I was surprised that there is no section for essays. It was a very, very basic application, and that’s not cool because they are probably miss judging the applicant. I already got admitted at Texas A&M, and accepted the offer. Not worth it to call them.

Congratulation to the admitted students, and good luck!

Still waiting…

I go to GPC and the class schedule for spring is filling up. Right now I can’t afford to have money tied up at at GPC (that would reserve a seat in the classes I need) and pay for books and fees at tech (if I get in in the spring). All of my friends that have applied received a decision one way or the other. Kind of hope they’re not planning another waitlist. It was really disappointing to get rejected a couple of weeks before the semester began. I think my summer would have been better had I just been rejected outright.

Don’t know if I should put myself through this again.

I can do regents but it’s a bunch of classes that won’t transfer and/or I don’t need for my degree. It would take me two more semesters and cost me a few thousand dollars. My GPA far surpasses the requirements. I have completed everything that GA Tech requires of Regents but Perimeter has a lot of fluff and unnecessary classes.

What is everyone’s backup plan if you don’t get accepted?

@Olala12 You go to GPC? Cool, me too (although i wanna get out asap)…And did you mean RETP?

And I have one more semester left to complete RETP…and yep it is alot of unnecessary classes that doesn’t transfer. I was waitlisted last semester, and i hope not again…I am really tired of GPC and want to get out ASAP. Right now, my back up plan is RETP, im taking statics, intro to engineering and engineering graphics 1 right now. If I get accepted this spring semester, I could drop the BS and move on…They need to give decisions faster so we can move on, Its either a yes or a no dammit!

Yep, I’m taking Computing for Engineers and Introduction to Engineering. Super ready to get out of GPC as well. Already took a graphics course that will transfer – 1671 I think, can’t see taking the other two graphics classes that GPC offers, because they don’t transfer.

Wonder if we are one step behind an applicant increase each time we have applied… more classes → more grades → ideally higher GPA just not high enough, another semester but still behind the curve… dunno.

The office of undergraduate Admissions at GA Tech said that we should have an answer by Friday. Trying to keep cool and get through the week at this point.

…also yes, I was referring to the RETP when talking about the regents.

Although, heads up to anyone considering that route – I’ve heard from my admissions councelor that the GPA requirement for RETP may be increasing soon. There is talk to increase the GPA requirement from a 2.7 to a 3.0.

Well I got Denied
Was waitlisted-denied for Fall 2012, and now denied for Spring 2013. My GPA isnt high, i barely met the requirement, but I don’t see why they didnt just denied me earlier, especially for Fall 2012. Waitlist…

Time to move on. No other choice now but to finish up RETP…it is a waste of a semester just to take 6 credits next semester, that is all I’m missing. Still at GPC too…and whos your intro to engr teacher?! we might be in the same class haha.

@illestfa5 I’m sorry buddy, we have been through the same process with Tech so I feel you it seems like you’re close though and one more semester isn’t bad to have guaranteed acceptance. Still file under review here, since it’s so late in the game though, I’m preparing myself for the same news but in my case I have about two semesters until I will have completed the RETP. I’m in Bennett’s class.

its all good…the only downside is this is going to be a longer process. Thats about it…patient is a virtue lol.
and yeah best luck to you. What is ur gpa that you applied with?

And darn, im in Richard’s class lol

I’m hovering around 3.3 for both overall & math and science, right on the line for minimum required GPA like you. The majority of my credits that can be applied towards this degree are A’s and some B’s, I’ve accomplished this wile working full time. I have a track record that displays an ability to be competitive at Tech. I’ve made it a point to take difficult and thorough teachers at GPC for the purpose if a solid math and science foundation. From what I can gauge, I’ve generally performed in the top percentage in my classes at GPC… My problem is that I didn’t do as well when I was in college the first time around and I have been climbing up from that GPA.

Last year the admissions standards increased, as a result the GPA padding I’d thought I created was essentially eliminated. GA Tech is a great school, their transfer applicants have likely increased as a result of the economical value and great education they provide. If their transfer admissions continue to be based solely on overall GPA I may never be competitive for admission without the extra time and cost of RETP. So this road may have just gotten longer and more expensive.

Although, I do know that I’ve have completed the RETP to the satisfaction of GA Tech, just not GPC. I wonder if I could transfer schools, to one that does not require as many non-transferable basic classes and get approved through their version of RETP. Does anyone have any insight into other RETP programs at a different GA school?

:) Accepted :)

congrats bro…i figure u would get in after reading the previous post…i have a 3.0-3.1 overall and combined. if you are at least 3.3 and above…i believe anyone will get in. Best luck to you at tech, hopefully ill join everybody in the fall.

but is it possible to apply for fall semester 2013 if i need 6 more credits (2 classes) this coming spring 2013 semester? Do u have any idea on that part? Cause i remember we have to apply early in the year for fall semester…

Thanks buddy! I’m more of a “sis” than a “bro” though

If you’re doing the regents transfer program your practically gauranteed acceptance with your GPA. I remember from my fall application that they requested a completed transcript of the preceeding Spring semester. So if you take classes thay may count towards your acceptance. Although, I do know that there exists a one semester gap between certain required coursework and when you can begin at GA Tech. Otherwise you may consider applying in the summer if you have another application fee to spare – since you are so close to being admitted.

Congrats everyone upon your acceptance. Is it unusual to have course evaluation pending 23 days into the game? GT actually, one, requested for course evaluation way past when they have already started releasing decisions and two, they now removed Maths from the courses required for evaluation in the BuzzPort without awarding credit for the Maths courses I submitted for evaluation. Does anyone know what is really going on? It is this late and my status is still " waiting for course Evaluation"???

Anyone else still “Under Review”?

mine is still file under review
lol olala u a girl? can u send me a picture? lol just jking

@johnlin I’m gonna pass on that not-so-much-funny-as-it-was-kind-of-weird attempt at hitting on a perfect stranger… via the internet… on a forum for college information…

No woman is flattered by lazily executed cat calls from dudes; and come on, it wasn’t even like you were funny either. Anytime you have to insert ‘jk’ at the end you should probably delete your comment and consider moving out of your mothers basement.

I’m going to go one step further today because as a lady in engineering I’ve become tired with this issue. If our internet collision can cause just one person to reevaluate their behavior I think, maybe it will be worth the extra key strokes…

It’s comments like yours that contribute to the perpetuation of the view of females as male objects. Ladies work hard in the professional realm to deflate this perception.

Look, while you don’t owe me a dime - I’d wager to say you’ve got a mother, sister, wife, aunt, and/or daughter; It would be a favor to them to refrain from this mindless heckling directed at your female peers. All is does is create a more adverse environment for women – and by adverse, I mean ‘seventy-eight cents on the dollar to men’ adverse. Imagine taking a lifetime twenty-two percent pay cut and still having to pretend like what some thick skulled dude said was funny just so you don’t hurt his feelings and become even more economically alienated at your job.

All I’m saying is that the problem real; So dude, if you can help it, just don’t be like that.

@Olala12, I agree with you 100%. This is not he PLACE for hitting on Ladies. Most of us are worried about the decisions, when will they be coming and if anyone has the latest news to share. There should never be an attempt to polarize such a platform that is so critical to most of us. So, thumbs up Sis for standing up. @johnlin, ZIP IT BRO. AND LEARN TO BEHAVE.

@ Nifery, my courses are still pending too.

I got a message from my admissions counselor saying that admissions is aware that some courses take a long time to evaluate and therefore will not cancel out any applicants due to a long time to get courses evaluated. He also said that he would try to see if it can be expedited.

I just sent them an email saying I will retake physics so they can just process my application now lol…

We’ll see how it goes!

I have 5 courses that have been pending for 39 days in the separate departments. It seems like admissions is aggravated with the departments since they take so long.

@Cytochrome, thanks for the info. Best of luck in the entire process. My course evaluation seems almost complete with most of the courses already awarded credit today. I suspect the decision is coming late today or tomorrow. The Registrar send me an email saying that the rest of the credit will be awarded after acceptance??? As in “Hold Pending Acceptance”???
