Since application will be up on August 1st. Let's start the discussion.

I am going to transfer as ChemE this spring, how about the rest of you?

I will be applying for Business. Does anyone know if there is an essay for transfers?

Yes, there is an essay for transfers, but I believe it is not as detailed as the freshman applications. That being said, don’t skimp on the essay by any means.

I’d like to transfer to IAC’s literature, media, and communication program. I’m not sure if admission will be any less competitive for liberal arts applicants, but I’ll give it my best try.

I applied for ISyE. I have a 3.82 cumulative GPA, will have ~34 hours towards my degree if I transfer to Tech. Good Luck to you all~

I applied the morning of August 1st. When it says decision rolling after October 1st, does that mean people who applied first will know first?

What is the essay? Im applying in january for fall of 2015

Applying for aerospace with a 3.88 and 45 credits done and 16 in progress.

Just FYI the essay isn’t important. All the info sessions I have been to said it was optional and their website says the same. By all means still write it if you like but most likely it will not weigh heavily on your application.

Also to Russellm0704, no when you submitted your application will almost definitely have no effect on your decision date. I would guess the only people to receive a decision that early will be people doing TAG or RETP who are guaranteed admission. After that maybe the highest qualified students applying for the least competitive majors. Engineering major typically get the latest decision considering their popularity.

I would never take the stance that the essay isn’t important no matter what anyone said.

Agreed with the essay is important. If it is not important, what is the point of them telling you to write one?

I applied for ChemE with 39 credit hours completed and 19 credit hours incoming for fall semester. Good luck everyone.

I mean they don’t really tell you to write one. It says its an optional short answer. Also, at the info sessions the guy who presented, works in the admissions office, said that the essay was mainly to provide some context to possibly substandard stats. Like I said write it if you’d like I suppose there’s no need to discuss this.
To answer ahamdanbibhs directly, the essay basically asks why are you interested and what would you hope to contribute.

up up

Hmm… lets pretend that there are 2 applicants with the same basic GPA and 1 takes the time to write the essay and the other doesn’t. Which one do you think they are going to chose? GT is a tough school and requires a lot of the students in order to succeed. So if you want to go to GT and you think writing one essay is too much effort then I’d suggest you rethink applying.

hey, u guys know how long it takes for the college transcript to be processed? I ordered and sent my transcript on August 4th to the admission office, and on buzzport it still says that my transcript is missing…

@MichiganGeorgia I am pretty sure they take account of what courses you have on your belt already, lets say both applicant applied for engineering major and one of the applicant took physics ii then it might have a little impact. My stance is that if essay is not important then what is the point of them asking you to write one even though it’s optional. Obviously it has some use to it but hey some people choose to opt that and we don’t really know how they select applicant in the first place beside gpa and course work taken.

@stochastich Did you do online transcript or mail transcript? I did online transcript and mine showed up on my buzzport in 2-3 business days.

@venoms - Transfers are different however back a couple years ago they had an article about how they picked the freshman. They talked about how they wanted to know each applicant and how the essay’s helped them do that. One girl talked about how she liked jigsaw puzzles and so they sent her acceptance as a jigsaw puzzle. The people making the decisions take a lot of time a thought into each applicant. I have to believe they do the same with the transfers. So IMO every little thing that you can do to make yourself stand out counts.

@MichiganGeorgia - I am not sure if you understand what I wrote. My point exactly is what you stated, every little things count. I took my time to reconstruct my essay to be the best possible, if it’s there for you to write then it’s likely to be important.

Is it possible to change my major now if my file is under review?

@venoms - Ok sorry I should have been posting to username90210.

@venoms - I don’t know if that is a good idea. Why are your trying to switch now?
